Sorry for dp, but I always run 256x256 or less textures and have tried direct vs copy and believe copy has always given me better results. Maybe it's just something with my system though Has weirdly been the exact opposite for me, but I've heard from others that they feel copy is best for them, too...

Shaders/Copy should help a ton . I run 60, 8, 256x256, Mipmaps=NO , Compress Textures=Always, Shaders/Copy , Shaders=Yes, 70, 8, No, Yes.
