My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
I just wanted to let JLV know my thoughts on the game and some changes I would like to put out there. I figured I would post this in the forum just in case anyone else wanted to comment/criticize my opinions. I posted something like this on the motocrossgamingforums so it may be familiar to some.
First off, I think it is completely awesome what you are doing basically on your own for the MX community. A good MX simulation game has eluded us for, well..who am I kidding we have never had one. Thank you very much (and the members of this community) for putting out an honest effort on one! Anyways, getting to the point, below are some changes I believe could really make this game great.
1)Proper clutch use. The ability to get a good start would depend on your application of throttle/clutch. This would be so much fun online with a full gate.
2)Momentum Issues. The problem here is that when you come off a jump face, if you slide up the face you can literally do a 720 because the bike just keeps spinning. This needs to be toned down quite a bit.
3)Realistic Crashes. It is obvious you haven`t completed this part of the game yet, but I thought I would throw it in anyways. I Absolutely love the way you made it so that the bike will crash differently everytime! As long as the rider de-attaches and also crashes realisticly (MVA was HORRIBLE here!) and then has to get up and run back to the bike, you would have it down perfect! Another thing to do with this, I think it would be great to have injuries in the online racing. That way people would think twice about trying that big triple because they might be out for a couple round with a broken arm, I think it would make for some great racing, and it would really seperate the men from the boys.
4)Different consistencies in the dirt. All the dirt in this game (And every other MX game) feels like cement. Its all rock hard and the tires ride on TOP of it. I want to feel like the knobbies are digging into the loam and hooking up. Or the deep sand is robbing momentum as the tires are digging in deep robbing all the horsepower. How it is now would be alright for hardpack sections.
5.)Traction. This game kind of feels like your riding on ice, or close to it. It feels VERY slippery, and too easy to wash out. I want to be able to go around a flat corner, get on the gas half way through and feel the bike hook up and power out, with the back end wanting to swing around the front. *The progressive throttle would be great here.
6)Track pictures. We need track pictures for track selection, because once you start getting too many tracks, its impossible to remember what each one is. I HATED this in MVA lol. (Although they did create a tool that somewhat helped).
7)Physics. I love what you did with the leaning to turn, thats definately what we needed. But, it still needs alot of tweaking. Like I said earlier, the bike doesnt seem like it has any cornering traction and washes out too easy. We need the bike to feel alot more stuck to the ground. I like how you have to slow down for corners, but I think we have to slow down too much right now. This all ties in to the traction thing.
8.)Bike sounds. We need real-life sounding bikes, from hitting the rev limiter to winding it out on a long straightaway, to shutting off the throttle on hard braking.
9)Online racing. I know this is being worked on, but I thought I would throw it in anyways. Also, be able to watch the race live if you are not participating.
Thats all I can think of at the moment. I do realize the game isnt completely finished, so excuse my ignorance if some of the things I mentioned is already in the works. Thanks for everything you guys have done so far, it`s already beating MVA in my opinion!

Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
This game has "progressive" throttle and brakes, clutch i'm not sure about. It has unlimted size and quality on displacement map and textures(as much as your computer can handle.) You do fall over in the corner if you don't cary your speed, and you do highside if you slide out to far. Have you played this game yet or are you commenting on things that need improvement by looking at screenshots and listening to what people say about it?
Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
I was unaware about the progressive throttle and brakes. I did say I was unaware of the texture quality as my computer cant handle much, so its good to hear that it is possible. Same goes with the displacement maps, I commented on that because I havent seen or played any tracks with nicely shaped ruts yet, even with the ground detail maxed out and computer lagging like hell.

try out my indianapolis 2008 disp, it has ruts just over half a foot wideJonezy677 wrote:I was unaware about the progressive throttle and brakes. Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
it sounds like you have never even attempted to play the game... i mean have you?? ALMOST everything u mentioned here is already apart of the game
Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
sounds like to me he hasnt done all the practicing he could have and still learning what to do

i agree with these commentsJonezy677 wrote: 4)Realistic Crashes. It is obvious you haven`t completed this part of the game yet, but I thought I would throw it in anyways. Almost everything? I posted 14 things, and 8 things are not a part of the game (13, 11, 9, 8, 7, 4, 3, 2), that is not even close to all of them, settle down bud.DannyBoy wrote:it sounds like you have never even attempted to play the game... i mean have you?? Anyways I do apologize to everyone for posting things without realizing they were in the game, my bad. But if we were to focus on the things that actually weren`t in the game, what do you think?
Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
They all are good improvments and im sure jlv would love to do all of them but he a one person team right now.

All games have around 20-30 guys working on i guess so i think that jlv should get more guys to help him

no it doesnt slide out that easily if u use the leaning...
really just PRACTICE none of use have issues
ALTHOUGH i do agree with the dirt consistancy

Yeah its pretty crazy thats hes doing this by himself, and he is even doing a better job than the high budget 30 man teams! I wish I knew something about designing games so I could help out! Its cool that you guys are making some real nice models though, every bit helps.
Re: My thoughts on some improvements that could be made.
Agreed..On most of those..
But I think crashes are kinda fine anyway..
Just gotta ask..
You race #677?

How are crashes kinda fine? IMO, this is a huge issue that needs to be fixed eventually.Rallemx wrote:Agreed..On most of those..

Good observations
My experience is this game has gotten exponentially more fun, enjoyable, realistic feeling, etc the more I play and learn how to "ride" in the game.
So some of your "beefs" may diminish considerably.
On a side note, I think this attitude, of constructive observations and suggestions, is very important to the long term development of the game.
