Your controller setup
Your controller setup
I've noticed some of you guys using a variable axis for your throttle (rather than an on/off button). What are you guys using? I've tried a playstation 3 controller (the buttons are pressure sensitive), but windows xp only senses them as on/off, i'm thinking of getting a wired xbox 360 controller and using the triggers, but im even thinking they might only be sensed by on/off through windows xp. Whats your choice of weapon?

Re: Your controller setup
I'm using a PS1 Controller. Right Analogue is for Acceleration/Braking, Left Analogue is for Steering/Leaning

Re: Your controller setup
nice stocksey, so you can use your triggers as a gradual throttle? saweet.
I had tried that arrangment DJ, wasn't a fan of not being able to brake and throttle at the same time, and that slight delay from full throttle to braking. Props to you for being able to do it well though! i'm probably a little to unco in the thumbs to get it to work nicely

Re: Your controller setup
This is the setup I use.
It took a little while to get used to, but I really wanted analog control over the throttle and both brakes.

Re: Your controller setup
Mines very similar to Stocksys, and yes the triggers are pressure sensitive on the 360 controller.. Thats what I use..
LT-Front Brake
RT - Gas
LB - Clutch
Y- Reverse
X - Rear Brake
A - Shift Down
B - Shift Up
RB - Sit Down
Left Analog stick turns left and right, and leans forward and backwards..
Very simple, and works very good for me..

Re: Your controller setup
All keyboard here
Up arrow - gas
Down arrow - brakes(front and rear both mapped)
Left/Right arrow - steering
Shift - sit (non-sticky, hold shift to sit, let off to stand)
Z - downshift
X - upshift
C - clutch
S - lean back
D - lean forward
I hardly use S and D though. I will sometimes hold S through some whoop sections. I own a controller with the two analog sticks, but I learned MXS on keyboard and have done pretty well with it, so I have just always stuck with keyboard.

Re: Your controller setup
I use a PS3 controller
Setup I have:
L1 - Clutch
R2 - Both brakes
R1- Sit/Stand (non-sticky)
O - back up
Left analogue stick left/right - Steer
Left analogue stick up/down - Lean
Right analogue stick up - Accelerate
Right analogue stick left - Shift down
Right analogue stick right -Shift up
I believe the benefit of changing gears with the right analogue stick makes gear changing a lot faster because all I have to do while I am accelerating is move the stick slightly to the right to change up gears, works really well for me

Re: Your controller setup
I bought a xbox controller today, man my lap times are suffering getting used to the different gear changing/braking techniques. Just one question, is there a program or setting we can just to expand the dead zone in the analoge controller a bit? Mine pulls slightly to one side, ive calibrated and recalibrated, and it seems to sit centre in the windows games controller options, but for some reason will pull slightly to one side, enough to throw me off in the whoops.

Re: Your controller setup
it's the analogue stick, all of them do that, it's always just slightly off, nothing you can do about it
Re: Your controller setup
You can fix it actually. Just open up your config file, find the control you want to fix, and change 0 to something in between 0 and 1 (or 0 and -1). Eg
lean_forward_key=(-0.900000,-1.000000)TwinUSBVibrationGamepad#2 axis 1
lean_forward_key=(-0.900000,-1.000000)TwinUSBVibrationGamepad#2 axis 1

Re: Your controller setup
DJ, could you expand on this a little? Is straight back -1.000? so if you did (-.90000, -1.10000) would it give you a little lee-way?
Re: Your controller setup
The limit is 1.000 or -1.000. -1 is pushing forward, 1 is pulling back. Not sure with the left/right config, youll figure it out though.
