Will this be a good build?

So, I've been planning to build a computer for a while. I'm finally to the point where I may actually be able to buy everything, but before I do that, I wanna make sure that everything's gonna be okay. One of my biggest fears is bottle necking. Does this dfac[/img]look like it will work and work well together?

It is all compatible, yes. Thought there is no reason to get a Z chipset motherboard if you aren't getting a K chipset CPU. If you think later down the road you may try overclocking then you can get a K processor but if not you can get a H chipset that lacks the features a Z board has but saves you some money. Comparison. You can save $40-50 just by cutting out overclocking software but I would recommend getting the K processors. Even if you don't think you will overclock, boards these days have programs that will auto OC for you and find the best settings. I'd tell you to keep that board, get a 4670K and sit on it until you can get CPU cooler, air or water, then you can decide if you want that or not but the 4670K for game purposes is definitely going to be better.

Will I be alright with the Intel CPU heatsink, or will I need an aftermarket heatsink to ensure I won't overheat? Btw, thank you very much!

If you're going to over clock your cpu then you really ought to get an after market heat sink. If you don't want to overt clock at all the one that comes with the cpu will do the job.mxsrider96 wrote:Will I be alright with the Intel CPU heatsink, or will I need an aftermarket heatsink to ensure I won't overheat? The only good reasons not to go with after market cooling are cost and the chances of damage due to incorrect installation is higher (although it's really not difficult, do not use too much thermal paste, it doesn't take much! ) .
Re: Will this be a good build?
You will be fine with the stock cooler. Since it's not an unlocked cpu you won't be able to overclock, so there is no need for an aftermarket cooler. That graphics card is really good but, I think 4gb is overkill then again you will never know with sim. Tbh if I were you I would just spend like $10 more and get a 770 2gb, more performance and I really don't think you will use more that 2gb but its up to you.mxsrider96 wrote:Will I be alright with the Intel CPU heatsink, or will I need an aftermarket heatsink to ensure I won't overheat? National tracks are maxing 4gb cards on full settings in single player.jeremy103 wrote:You will be fine with the stock cooler. Yeah, with 99.9% of games on the market right now 4gb is overkill, but mxs is the exception.SMR 510RR wrote:National tracks are maxing 4gb cards on full settings in single player.jeremy103 wrote:You will be fine with the stock cooler. It's mainly because the user created skins and models are not optimized and use extremely high resolutions in somecases.

Re: Will this be a good build?
I wanted a 4gb card to get that overkill rating. I want this build to last me a while with 0 upgrades due to outdates. Knowing that the national tracks are pushing 4gb cards to the limit kinda scares me that this card will be obsolete for sim by Nationals next year lol

If you want this to be stable for years to come without upgrades then OC will be your best friend for CPU and GPU. As it sits right now those are good choices and you wouldn't need OC out of the box but when things seem like they are overwhelming your PC pushing the CPU/GPU 10% can make all the difference. I stand by my 4670K and Z97 option then.

I did upgrade to the 4670k like you suggested Puma. Wasn't overwhelmingly high priced either, which made me happy

Re: Will this be a good build?
I consider that a false statement. No one, NO ONE will play this game maxed out meaning 1024x1024 and the sliders all the way up with a 40 man gate at a national, it's ridiculous. 512x512 is (in my opinion) the same a 1024x1024. I believe i heard jlv say that 1024x1024 isn't any different than 512x512 but the fact that it waste v ram. If you have the money to max sim out completely then you got some cash because unless you have a titian z I think it will be hard to max out avalon brush with 40 riders maxed out. I downloaded the low res highpoint and maxed out the setting (512x512) and it only used 456mb and looks fine. So again i say it's up to him but i don't think 4gb is necessarySMR 510RR wrote:National tracks are maxing 4gb cards on full settings in single player.jeremy103 wrote:You will be fine with the stock cooler. If you're worried about bottlenecks, you should think about throwing an SSD in your build. The old mechanical drives are a massive bottleneck in comparison. You didn't mention a budget or what the computer is mainly going to be used for, but an SSD, even a small 64GB or 120GB one just for your OS install, is literally the best upgrade you can make to a build nowadays. Once you experience what an SSD can do you'll never want to go back to old spinning drives again.

Re: Will this be a good build?
I don't really have a budget. I'll save up as long as I need to to get what I'm wanting. But I don't wanna be saving money for 6 moths just for a computer when at that point, I'd have enough money to buy 5 or 6 computers that will be decent builds. And I was thinking about an SSD just for my OS install, but, given that this is my first build, I think I'm just going to stick to the basics, and possibly upgrade to the SSD later on

Very good plan. I'll throw parts together for you on what I believe will be the best bang for the buck. Do you have a certain amount of money right now?mxsrider96 wrote:I don't really have a budget. Right now, I wouldn't have enough money to buy a computer that would run a SNES emulator... lol. I'm just looking to spend less than $1000
