help new computer wont even recognize my old controller!!!

so i have a very generic ps3 controller its wired well when i plug it into my computer the lights turn on, all 4 of them. my old computer it would flash. ive downloaded better ds3 and the motionjoy stuff and it wont even say it is something plugged into my usb port. ive tryed all my ports they do the same thing. my computer was a super upgrade and i just want my well known controller back help please
