That's just simply not true. Nothing about what you just said is true. I can install and play games offline and NEVER need Steam to touch the internet again. I do this with several single player games. Even if steam takes the game off the store, you can still play it as long as you had it installed. I have games in my library right now that are not on the store and work fine.Zooted wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 3:02 am Steam could easily do the same thing, just because you purchased those games on steam doesn't mean you actually own them.. you're essentially paying a subscription for the rights to install and play the games. If steam closed it's doors, you don't have access to those games anymore, and If a game is purchased on the steam store and then steam decides to take it off of the store, you don't get a refund for said game.
There are a few people that would do it for a bit or limited time, me included. I do things for the game that don't involve messing with the game files because I respect JLV. But they would have to know the language he uses and understand the inner workings of the game. You can fuck up things you have no idea you're fucking up by changing a simple value.
The next thing is, the people who would work for free will run out. JLV isn't doing it for free. But he can't assemble a team to do the things he's doing and have it be successful. There's a reason he does it himself, because if it fails, he just doesn't make money. He's only out time. If he has people on his team that he has to pay, and it fails, he's out money.
It definitely is. But as far as not existing, MXS is completely in the black and can basically go on forever. If you go in the red borrowing money to go big you can do great things, but if the sales numbers aren't big as well your creditors are going to shut you down.
