Track of the Week Series week 1: Black Mesa (Cancelled! Revoting for next week.)

Post by jlv »

(Edit 2025-05-29: This track has pretty funky traction so I'll run another vote and we'll go again next week. - jlv)

If you haven't seen the other topics, I'm starting a casual weekly series where we'll race on a new track chosen by vote every week. Fast guys are welcome but since this is for casual players don't get mad if some squid on a 125 gets in your way!

This week's track is Black Mesa!

Time: Friday May 30, 2025 9:00 PM EDT
Server: elsinore.mxsimulator.com:19805
Track link: blackmesamx.7z

The track is running on elsinore.mxsimulator.com:19805 now. I'll use the lap times from there for the seeding if more than 40 show up. Planning on doing two 8 lap motos.

I get the feeling that the sample size for votes was way too small. This track while being good for its time doesn’t really hold up that well imo with casual play. One second I’m good and the next I’m barrel rolling into the ground with a random front end grab / tuck. It’s actually quite frustrating how random it feels at times.

I think an official MX Simulator community discord needs to be made to get more of the active player base’s votes / nominations because imho it feels like this track was voted purely on nostalgia factor by a handful of people.

Not gonna lie I voted for this track purely based off my nostalgia for it and after playing it for a bit I kinda wish I woulda picked a different one  Still a great track and I'm super excited to race it but this traction has aged like out of date milk.

I was hitting about 2:30's with legs offs and slideouts the entire lap so a clean lap would be about the length of an average pro national. My guess is ~2:20-2:22. But the track feels so random that going that pace is asking to crash. Also the chatter from the 1k terrain + traction makes me wanna neck it.

I lied, just checked and it's 2k terrain. But it somehow feels like 1k terrain detail despite being at a scale of 1.

Definitely weird traction. I'm knifing the front wheel everywhere too. Do you guys want to skip this one? I could go either way.

28 votes is sad...

Unfortunately I agree that it should be skipped, definitely wishing I would have voted for a different track now

I also agree we should skip this one. Track is fun to play casually on, not caring about what happens. Not for a race IMO. Thank you for putting this on JLV!

This track is pretty frustrating. We'll re-vote and try again next week.

Where would be better? The forum is pretty easy for me and I like not depending on third party sites.

The forum is perfect. After an event or two, people will start to notice the series, and participate. Maybe even some guys who stream or make content, it will eventually get word around and you'll have dudes who show up. Some dudes may show up an hour or so before the event starts, realizing there is a race because they happened to be on. I think stick with the forum, and the series will grow itself.
