People Should be getting paid for their creations!
Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
If I were forced to pay for content for this game I'd be out like the fat kid in dodgeball. I don't mind donating my money to quality projects, but to be forced to pay for content would be suicide for JLV's game.

how would you suggest encouraging people to donate money to these projects?

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
im gonna have to agree with him on this. i think the following and enjoyment of everything for this game would drop huge. i understand all the hard work put into quality things. if i were making them and knew id be getting a little something back id probably be more excited to do it also. but i kno 90% of the people that play and download things created for this game would not pay. it sucks but its reality. ever since i started playing mx games on the pc (mcm2) the idea of getting paid has never came up. there were some amazing things created for that game. tons of models and awesome skins. people did that and enjoyed doing it and loved getting people excited. idk they just never once brought up money. also mva09 is coming out with a shit ton of hard work put in. more work then we will probably ever kno and those guys arent asking for any money. the only difference from mcm to now is that they didnt have all these whiney bitching kids like we do now. i understand that that would take any enjoyment right out of it. its a shitty deal really. not to be a dick but i would probably not pay for skins either. i wouldnt mind donating a bit tho. but idk how that would all work and who all woudl get it.Phathry25 wrote:If I were forced to pay for content for this game I'd be out like the fat kid in dodgeball. So, you wouldn't pay...but you'd donatejbob23 wrote:not to be a dick but i would probably not pay for skins either. i wouldnt mind donating a bit tho.

I'm probaby in the minority, being "older", having a full time job (and my wife even gives me an allowance), and I personally would be willing to pay a small fee to make my hobby of pc mx gaming better. So my perspective is not "I'm a creator, I wanna make some cash" but it is "I really enjoy using other people's creations, and I understand how much work it all is, and I'd like to see creators rewarded, because it would increase their motiviation as well as recognize real quality"

Just a food for thought. This game came out as a constantly updated beta, correct? IMO there are still many kinks in the road to a perfectly developed game here. I love MXS and the community, mind you, but the game still needs work.
Possibility: Once JLV has gotten the game to where the majority is happy with most every detail of the game, and it is no longer just an updating beta, then he should code for updates. You could compare it to Xbox Marketplace. You get the updates for the game, in our case snapshots, yet you must pay with microsoft points for things such as maps and content, in our case models and skins. It could be decided what would go into the free content and what would be the content for sale.
All in all, a great idea and I support it.

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
Not trying to burst anyones bubble here ok. Just some realistic thoughts on this...
Since mcm1 I havent really seen user content being charged for in a mx game. Donations maybe, but cannot recall of specifics just maybe on a website asking for donations to keep stuff running. I DOUBT I would start paying for tracks, etc, but I wouldnt say never.
In general if you look at games and fan content, its very rare that user content is charged for. Look at all the mods for FPS games where an entire team basically creates a new game experience, yet doesnt charge for it. If your a lucky team, a publisher might take notice and you might get a chance to create something that can be sold. My point is most people do this because they like to, or they do it for the experience.
Finally, did you pay for that photoshop program or that modeling program? If you cannot afford the software to create what you want to sell, then why should I pay you? Also, there may be legal issues with selling brand name products when you dont own the trademark. Something you might want to consider before distributing something you dont have rights to. Maybe there is a reason MXS and Mx vs Atv doesnt have real bikes in its games?

I don't think anyone would donate. Putting ads on the forum might be able to raise something around $50 a month (no guarantees on that), which I could give to content creators. Deciding who gets how much could get kind of ugly though.

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
One problem is how many young players there are here. I bet the majority of people here don't even have jobs or hardly any money of their own. The parents pay for their stuff, and their parents probably paid for the game. Not that that is a bad thing, but that just means they won't be paying/donating money either.
Good idea, but I just don't see donations happening.

That is probably a much better idea.jlv wrote:I don't think anyone would donate. Putting ads on the forum might be able to raise something around $50 a month (no guarantees on that), which I could give to content creators. Deciding who gets how much could get kind of ugly though.
I think there would be 2 possible ways for people to be fairly "paid/given the money"
First idea
Just lay out the exact percentage for each thing
Highest rated Bike model - 20%
2 Highest rates bike skins - 3% each
etc...
Would the advertising be monthly based or on how many people see it/click on it?
Anyway if its not a certain amount each month i think it should be worked on an average of each month (Say the previous 3 months)
To stop cheating new members (people under 2 weeks) cannot vote unless they PM either JLV or DJ telling them what they want to vote for. (This is to stop people making 5 accounts and making them all vote for them)
Problem with this would be people might start to "time" the release of their creations when they know no one else is doing any. Maybe to stop this each month there is voting held or something like that. Everyone can nominate a skin (One that hasn't won before) which will be voted on. (Even if its a skin from last month)
Second Idea
Each creator of best items say how many hours they spent working on it. And all the hours is just divided up. Obviously this will take a lot more honestly but with all the skilled people around here im sure we could work out the bulls**t
Example:
If I said, oh here is a skin i worked 25 hours on but it is clearly i spent 3-6
DJ, DDMX, Messiah, LuizH, Goardy, iceman would easily cry bulls**t and id be given my 4.5 hours worth (didn't mean to leave people out, just people that sprung to mind)
Also maybe we could have 5% going to the best team of that month to help support teams.
A certain amount of points for each online win and same for demos. This could easily happen once stats go online
EDIT:
messed up the order of one bit

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
Well if we're going with the dividing up advertisment incomes. I say what we could do is have the rating from puremxs to be used. Have a star = $1. Then sasy soemone gets a 3.7 overall = $3.70. Of course you might still have the problem of multible accounts, but if someone like Kyler creates a skin then theres 7 other accounts that give it a 5 overall. Its obvious thats a fake.

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
I personally dont like the idea. i dont make skins to get something other than comments and people saying they like it. thats enough for me. i think it would kill the game. i know i wouldnt be paying $3 for a skin or track, simply because im 15 years old, dont have a job and my parents wont buy it because they have real motocross stuff to pay for and they dont understand why i even like the game lol. i think it would completely destroy the game, although donations wouldnt be bad, even if its only like 50 cents lol

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
Forcing people to pay for content would not help the game at all, it would make people leave. I can see donations, people giving the creators money if they want to, not if they have to. I think creators would want some incentive for their hard work, but they also make their creations for themselves right? I think the best thing would have donations, there never have been forced fees for game content really, mostly everything is free. Another thing, if people want the game they have to buy it, but (no offense JLV) the stock game content isn't the greatest, so then people would have to pay to make the game better still? It would be forcing people to pay more than the game just to have better content from the getgo.

Yeah, Im only 15 years old, my parents won't let me give money to people over the internet.
I sure would like to but I cant'

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
I'm going to say no to everything. I don't mind making things for free. The gaming community has done it like this for years. If anything, I say 100% of the profits to go JLV. He's the one paying for the servers, websites, licenses, he's the one working through plimus which probably costs money. If he has extra income, he also shouldn't spend it on us. He should recruit help for the actual game before giving it out to modders. I'd be willing to work for JLV for free, I wouldn't put in a 7 hour day for him, but I'd help out and work at a reasonable pace. If he were to give me $5 a week, I'd be willing to help out even more. But I'm sure 90% of the modders here would jump on the opportunity of working ON the game, if JLV asked. Or maybe just pay Messiah, since that's what he wants. The rest of us can be lowly and free.

Re: People Should be getting paid for their creations!
Well I think my main motive for this idea was to continue the developement and encourge those who do create. Like DDMX said he has many unfinished projects that he isnt very motivated to finish.
I agree that JLV should hire some help. Which could be in the form of donations and from advertising. But using the money as a constant salary rather than per item.
As an added incentive we could hold a contest. That way we start off by having a heap of new stuff.
