Wanna have "fair" 2-strokes vs 4-strokes racing?? Try this

150 vs 250F
250 vs 350F or 400F
300 vs 500F

For me, the main error in the 4-strokes regulation was lifting the bar to 450F for the middle class. 250 2-strokes bikes were quite competitive against the 400F (I'm not talking about MX, I'm talking about World enduro racing during the late 90s and early 2000s)

Double, didnt mean to hit submit.

I think majority of people that have ridden a 250t and a 450 will agree that while the 250t may be more fun (they are to me anyway). That the 450 is a lot better to go quicker on, for longer. Therefore being the better racing choice.

I have heard something that KTM is going further in development with their 2 strokes.
It was a rumor that I heard from somebody from our MX team in Holland.

So I'm pretty curious with what they come up with. IF the rumor is true..

Direct injection.

Honestly, in mx a 450 might be easier to go faster but in the woods you can't beat a 250 two stroke. Their power is sudden, lighter, plenty fast and easy to maintain. Its not which bike is the best overall because that's a matter of riding style and opinion, it's what bike fits your riding needs better. For example, my dad loves his 450 husaberg (I love that bike too) but my yz 250 is so much easier to race in the woods because it fits my riding style.

Yeah I feel like the 2t are so handicapped right now that for a pro theres no point in riding one. Heres a kind of neat article that I found from MXA. Basically it says that a 2012 YZ250F is now on par with a 2005/06 YZ250. I'm not suprised because like I said the 250F's have come a long way and the 250's haven't even been touched in 7 years minus graphic changes every 2 years.

It's a bit wordy and a good read but just as I figured, they have a place for each of them. The 250F worked better when it was slick and the 250 worked better when it was sandy, bumpy and hilly.

Nah, 300s still can beat 500F bikes on the World enduro championship. Not only KTM but also Gas Gas have awesome 300 2-stroke machines

heheheheh I ride a YZ250 and My dad rides an 08 Husaberg FE450.... The Husaberg is so much easier to ride in the TIGHT stuff, because it was built to compete in the woods.

DJ99X wrote:A pro rider, or almost any rider, would be faster on a 450 4-stroke than a 450 2-stroke. There is a point where you can have too much power. Besides, a 450cc 2-stroke would be equivalent to something like a 650 4-stroke.
Then again, if the rules were CC to CC, there wouldn't really be a need to make the 2-strokes power be so damn snappy. Wasn't that done because of an effort to keep up with the 4-strokes and the rule handicapping?
Tune the 2-stroke engine differently and it could very well outperform a 4-stroke on the "putting the power to the ground" bit.

I used to have a 50cc 2-stroke moped which had ridiculous low rpm torque. It could ride forward in 1st gear with just idle. And no, the idle wasn't set too high.

Funniest thing about this topic??
Nobody remembers that 2-strokes really came to life when they started beating 4-strokes when the ruling forced equal engine size on both engine types

I don't know much about the "4-strokes to 2-strokes" era in motocross but I remember reading about some weird engines in road racing

From V2 to V8 500cc 4T
From V2 to V6 250cc 4T
From single-cylinder to inline-4 125cc 4T

And all were beaten with
V3 500cc 2T
V2 250cc 2T
Single-cylinder 125cc 2T

Who the fuck said little 4-strokes engines sounded bad!?
