Obviously, we all think that $40 is a great deal for MXS. If we didn't, we wouldn't have bought it. I think that MXS in particular is a game that you're either going to love and think $40 is absolutely worth it, or it's a game you'll hate passionately and would pay money to keep off your system. The average gamer, who doesn't ride IRL and just likes to see pointy pieces of plastic with pretty colors sailing through the air, would miss the point of this game. I think that's a big defense for JLV, actually, because it's the middle-of-the-road people who download illegally, as a general rule.
There's no rules saying that add-on content has to be free for MXS, though. If someone makes a bike and decides to charge each person a dollar for it, that's their right. But considering that everything else so far has been freeware, they probably won't be very popular. I've seen other games that are theoretically very easy to mod and make freeware for, but no one wants to because all the payware is $10 for even the lowest-quality piece of garbage. I think the Microsoft Flight Simulator series has about the best mod culture around. Not only are there tens or even hundreds of thousands of downloads available for free, but there are also entire companies that do nothing but make payware, and they compete against each other. The kind of quality I've seen on occasion is amazing. They've got 767s where passengers can complain about being too hot or cold, if you're not paying attention to the A/C! All this is a bit off-topic from the pirating discussion, but it's interesting nonetheless, I think.
Give me more power.
Give me more handling.
Give me more style.
Give me more Maico.
I see the point but the point is also lost in reality. There are plenty of people who would download the game and not pay, not because they can't pay, but because they don't want to. They are stealing. Arguing for a theoretical world where people do one of either is immaterial and should be taken to a philosophy forum in my opinion (not because it isn't interesting but because random people that might happen across that thread start to get 'ideas' and then base future decisions off the idealized/non-realistic 'world'.)
I live in a group home, work at a mental disorder workplace, and I make buckets at the piece rate of 1.8 cents per bucket, and I get $10 allowance every week. How in the F***ing hell am I supposed to get this great game for $42 unless saving up and buying absolutely nothing for 5 weeks straight, only to realize after I bought the game, it wasn't all that I expected, cause I couldn't paint my anthro cardinal skin just how I wanted to. This is why I pirate games, and it's NOT stealing, cause it's not like the developer actually lost a copy. I just might have to go for the cheap MCM2.
