when i did that at the top of the screen it said it cant load nonpower 2 or something like that and my whole guy was white

is your skin a power of 2? I.e. 1024x1024, 1024x2048, 2048x2048...?

1024x2048 is good. when it prompts you to interlace, select none, and click ok.

Put this .png in your personal folder, and it will show up when selecting gear.

ok and i made bike graphics and saved them as crf250-mybike and they didnt even show up in the menu. how do i fix that

ok ive searched the forums and ive done some googling but i still havent found what the ground minimaps are

It's mipmaps. They're lower resolution filtered versions of the texture that are used at a distance. Visually they will prevent distant textures from sparkling due to point sampling.
