When is it going to happen?
You had mentioned it before JLV, so is it going to become a reality?
It seems like their are a lot of simple fixes that could be made by people other than you, considering you don't have the time..
I see so many posts of suggestions that you reply, "I'll get to it soon," or, "Oops I keep forgetting to add that."
Wouldn't it be nice for people to come up with, implement, and submit these ideas to you with an exe that you could review for QA?
We could have a BETA section for the forum, where custom EXE's will go awaiting JLV and community response for their improvements/drawbacks.
For races online there would just be the snapshot checking to make sure there was no cheating.
What do you guys think?
I think I want to see 1.9 released some day.

Good idea, but there would be so many goons trying to make snapshots that it would just be silly. I don't believe anyone here has extensive knowledge in game mechanics/engineering and I would rather JLV hire people with the skills from outside the community rather than waste time reviewing poorly made updates.

I see your point, but it would just be like it is now, regarding tracks/skins/models.
JLV wouldn't have to review every single snapshot.
Basically if some kid posts "MXS Snapshot 2.xxx Best whip Snapshot!" or something we know its's bs already.
But, if someone like Checkerz or the rF guys posted a snapshot, with an extensive list of changes made, then I'm sure it would gain traction in the community, thus, obligating JLV to take a look
and possibly implement it into the official snapshot. I know it would be different than what we're used to, but sometimes change is good. And it's not like we couldn't revert back if it didn't work out.
As far as people that would say this is a way to get the game free, cutting JLV out, it's not. You'd still need an official snapshot to race online as well as a regkey.
I bet you as well, people from other tech and coding forums would come work on this just for practice/fun if it were open source and made known.
I don't see why we couldn't give it a shot. Hopefully, this will get looked into.

Open source isn't needed for MXS. It's unprofessional and I'm sure the game will progress slowly, but surely.
I would like to see the original version or the demo version with integrated 2013 models. Then kids wouldn't take one look at the demo then frown at such a sick game.

he can't integrate real bike models into the original game because he doesn't have a license to distribute them in a game. that's the same reason MVA alive didn't have real named bikes in the original game, but you could download them as DLC.

It'll be a while before that happens. It's something I plan on doing if I lose interest in it so other people could keep it going.

I must admit - I too would love to be able to contribute to the game as far as coding is concerned.
Agree with BYH707 - there are many things that seem like small improvements that would make the world of difference. Maybe if open source is not an option, a "trusted contributors" model where jlv trusts some of us enough to tackle small things - source could be hosted????
Please jlv

A good scripting system will help a lot as far as that goes.

So when will a
good scripting system be put into place?

If it were open source, me and a couple of buddies would probably look into porting it from OpenGL to DirectX. Just some food for thought.

sorry for the dp, but, it would definitely be nice to be able to contribute, and see the game progress at a bit faster pace, as it has SO much potential, both graphically, and feel/riding wise, but i feel its being held back by a lack of optimization for modern computers, displays, as well as some minor tweaks that could be made to improve some of the "WTF" moments that happen etc...

All true. missing a lot of optimization, but i'm not criticizing Jlv's work

Do you still have interest about MX Simulator? I think it could be a good time to transfer MX Simulator to Open Source project. Or may be whitlisted open source : People have to be approved by JLV to be able to push updates for the project.
I think a lot of very good developers are in this community as there is a lot of good modelers.
These developers could work on the GUI to have better menus, submenu on skins menu, preview,....

You went and found this but couldn't read the multi page thread that JLV replied in many times that is still front page in this section?
