2008-04-09 snapshot

Post by jlv »

The only update is the winner's total race time is in the final results.

Windows users: http://mxsimulator.com/snapshots/mx-2008-04-09.exe
Linux users: http://mxsimulator.com/snapshots/mxbin-2008-04-09

Replace mx.exe or mxbin with one of the above files. I'd keep a backup of the originals since these aren't well tested.

Seems like all the snapshots, you write "I'd keep a backup of the originals since these aren't well tested.", so it makes me think it will be buggy, and then I play it and it's way better. :/

They really are untested. I just type "make" play it once and upload.

Can we get a TRT column so we can see each racers TRT?

This one has been bugging me since the beginning. Why are the tracks stored in the top secret hidden folder on my C: drive? Why not just put all the tracks in the MX Sim folder. I have a portion just for games that I like to keep clean, and having to dig through my documents and settings for a hidden folder just to delete a crappy track is getting old.

Thanks for the constant flow of updates. Makes spending that 42 bucks easier.

You aren't supposed to write to that folder on Vista. The reasoning behind it is if you have multiple users on the same computer they can all have their own settings that way. I'm not sure why the local appdata folder is hidden by default. I've thought about just creating the MX Simulator folder in the users profile folder (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\) to get around the hidden folder, but Microsoft's docs say not to do that.

I can do that, but do you think it might make the table too fat?

When you add a TRT column you can get rid of the Lap column and just put -1 in the TRT column if they are down a lap or -2 if they are down 2 laps and so on because the TRT means nothing if you didn't complete all the laps. I personally think you can get rid of the BLap column too. Also I don't think the results should show up on the screen until the user finishes...even if an AI finishes in front of you I think the Unofficial results should show up when you cross the finish line. That way is more realistic and it makes it so the table can be as big as you want because it wont affect your view while racing.

If your fast you don't need to worry about that though. :D

I think that it should only show your Best Lap, Total time, and laps ran, and then once the Final Results come up, have a formal, darkened in box in the center of the screen for the Final Results, a lot like MVA.

EDIT:

Also, nicer menu screens would be cool. It'd make the game look more professional.

well not everyone is fast lol. i still get beat sometimes. i agree nicer menus would be nice but i like the fact that u can still ride around after the race is over...and i like the unoficial and official results in the top left.

True. I always find myself riding back to the pits and parking under tents, for some reason. :/

When you hit 5th pinned in the air,the sound and rpm gauge goes nuts. Happens every time you hit the rev limiter in 5th while in the air. I dont know if its just this snapshot or what but its worth taking a look into.

I couldn't reproduce it. Do I have to use a specific bike or jump?
