Well, do you have antilock brakes turned on?

What controller are you using?

Don't brake and turn at the same time.

Stand up, lean back and brake. Then sit down, turn in, and get back on the gas. Turning and braking just doesn't work unless you're in a good berm or rut.

Also, what do you have the brake buttons bound to? Try to set your controller up so they are both analog. I have mine set up so the left trigger is clutch, right trigger is front brake, left stick turns and leans, and right stick is throttle and rear brake. I couldn't find a setup that made more sense to me, but you may be different.

Yeah, you aren't going to have any luck effectively braking with the brakes mapped to digital buttons.

Well actually, I use a PS3 controller and I have both brakes on Square and the throttle on X (because my right analog stick doesn't work, I used my left analog stick for steering and leaning, and my triggers won't work as analog :\), and I do fine ^^ It just takes some getting used to, and a lot of feathering the throttle ^^
