MCM1, MCM2, MXvATV track creators + OpenGL help?

Post by AMA_King »

Hello - this is AMA_King.
I used to play MCM1, MCM2, MXvATV.
I was also the Founder of Team AMA and a Recognized Track Creator for those games.
I was even also flown out to AZ for an interview at Rainbow for a position as track creator.
- however, I was a bit older than the other guys & made way more money than they could pay.

I looked around here a little bit & see Motoboss around - what's up dude!
- who else is here from "back in the old days"?

Anyhoo... I really wanted to try the demo - but I can't get it to run!
- I have a pretty damn good PC (see my sig)

Can I get a little help?
- I assume it is OpenGL related...

welcome! I think you'll find at least a couple guys you'll recognize from back in the day, as well as a lot of really talented new guys.

Welcome to a new MX addiction AMA_King.

I haven't made anything for this game, mainly because I am terrible at it, but I was one of the MCM guys rainbow hired. I worked on MX vs ATV Untamed. But I left after a year. There is a little bit more of a learning curve with the editor and stuff for MX Sim and the game in general. Good luck with it all! :)

Yeah this clues me into why shack is so damn good. If you were good at mcm or mcm2, you had some skills for sure. Not to mention, lots of practice ha!* I was young back in those days (MCM) but remember a lot of the names floating around. It's awesome to see everybody together playing the best MX game in history.

*I'm still trying to figure out your full setup/config.

jlv, thx for the reply - no error MESSAGE, but a crash report says:
AppName: mx.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0
ModName: atiogl.dll
ModVer: 6.14.10.9704
Off set: 00a27ece
=============================
I did get it running! I can only use "GROUND TEXTURE RESOLUTION" of 32x32 - all others crash.

I was methodical about changing the graphic settings, applying changes, exiting, restarting, checking that the setting changes were saved / activated, and then running the game.

Once I figured this out, I ran Rabbit Hill, but when switching to the other track, the game crashed (same crash info).

Exit & restart allowed me to run the other track as my first selection, but when switching back to Rabbit Hill, the game crashed (same crash info as above).

=============================
Reference info - ATI 4870-1GB video card with driver versions:
Driver Packaging Version - 8.712-lots of #'s...
Catalyst - 10.3
2D Driver - 6.14.10.7060
Direct 3D - 6.14.10.0735
OpenGL - 6.14.10.9704

Not entirely sure what the problem is, as all your driver info looks fine. Give deleting the config file a go, that has fixed alot of problems in the past

Greetings Sky, Showtime, BoNalls and everyone else who hopefully stumbles in!
Awesome to see you guys! Hopefully we'll see some cool new stuff for this game!
I see some stuff here already - http://www.puremxs.com

I sent e-mail to all the old AMA guys about the demo.
I'm sure the guys @ TwistedDirt are aware of this right?
If not, Bruce (AMA_DirtTwister) will get my email about the game.

*You know if we all sent email to our old teams, this game would sell a few more copies!
- yeah, I'm a Business Development & Project Manager kinda' guy...

I'm pretty impressed with the first person view ride-ability. I suck on KB though!
- I'd like to try this with the controller this guy is making:
http://www.mxsimulator.com/benchracing3 ... f=1&t=4706

QUESTIONS - FULL VERSION:
I hate game pads... can I use a joystick or wheel?
Will higher texture resolutions work in the full version?

You should be able to use a joystick in the demo

And yes, higher resolution textures work. They should in the demo as well

HA! Just click the specific control option... duh!
I was expecting a button for "Joystick, Gamepad" etc.

This is great - I am using 2 controllers at once!
I am using my Logitech MOMO's - gas & brake pedals (for font brake)
I am using my MS Sidewinder Precision 2 joystick for steering left / right & lean forward / back.
I assigned a button on the joystick to the rear brake & clutch (never tried the clutch yet - still getting acclimated).
I notice the bike is AUTO shift... are there MP races that dis-able that? I am OK with AUTO for now!

What is Sit/Dab? Is that supposed to be like pre-loading for a jump?

I still crash when game changes tracks... tried it in MP also = same when server changes tracks.
Still nothing better than 32x32 textures... or it crashes. Deleted my *.saf file, reinstalled etc.
