Who likes the shiny plastics?

Post by Voutare »

Who likes the shiny plastics?

You know how the shrouds, and fenders are? With how good the skins are getting now, they really screw up the look of the bike. For example the high-res CR 125 looks wierd with such high detail, but some 'sun-faded' fenders with shiney stuff on them. They should just be normal like the number plates. The shine and reflection can just be put in on the skin now.

Who agrees?

I think the shinyness should stay because it looks a lot better when the shading changes while you ride...That said I think each skin should be able to use another file to layout the specular of each part of the skin...Like white would be max shinyness(metal), and black would be minimum shinyness(grips) This way we could still make parts not shiny but keep the dynamic shading.

the idea of having a different layout in which to nominate where the env layer is and isnt sounds good to me,
as you may have noticed on some of my skins, it looks pretty dodgy when it is shining off something that isnt there.

Huh?

I've never really seen plastics shine like they do in this game, ever. I can't ever see a reflection from my rear fender, and also my rear fender doesn't stop right where my number plate attatches to it. Really, what should happen is all the aluminum parts on the bike should be shiny (Frame, swingarm), and the plastics shouldn't.

Well hopfully we can get normal mapping soon and draw scratchs in the plastic, that would be cool, although we need a very very good shader.

Hooray for normal maps! I also like the idea of a seperate file used for shading purposes. And the plastic is shiny, at least off the showroom floor. When it gets older though it still has shadows.
