DDMX, you should take particular note of this. I just looked at the normal maps for your rocks in the track project folder, and you should definitely do this.
Its a good tutorial. Results are great. Works for more than just rocks as well.

i had learnt that a while back from someone, it was back in the day and i made a tutorial for it, just never thought to upload it :s owell seems u beat me to it. can anyone upload there tutorials here?>

I did some basic Photoshop tutorials but in german

You need to download the 'normalmap plugin', search for it on google somewhere, then in Gimp under effects 'projections' or something the tab is called I believe, and then select normalmap.
