MX Simulator on PSP – Could It Work?

Post by LilCheezy »

I’ve been thinking a lot about how cool it would be to have MX Simulator on the PSP. The controls are already there—an analog stick, triggers, and face buttons—so it seems like it could work really well. Obviously, the PSP isn’t as powerful as a PC, but with some optimization, I feel like it could run decently.

The biggest challenge would be actually getting the game onto the PSP. I don’t know much about porting games or if it’s even possible with the way MX Simulator was built, but I’ve seen plenty of homebrew projects bring other PC games to the PSP. Maybe a simplified version could work? Even if it meant reducing the physics complexity or graphics, I still think it would be an awesome way to play the game on the go.

I wanted to throw this idea out there and see what you guys think. Has anyone here messed around with PSP homebrew or game development? Do you think this could even be possible, or is the PSP just too limited to handle it? If not, maybe a mobile version would make more sense.

Let me know what you guys think.

Maybe you could find a way to run Linux on a PSP and give it a shot yourself. But that's extremely old and underpowered hardware - your experience would probably be much better on a Steam deck or modern handheld like a ROG Ally.

Im sure its possible in some way but, i would think it would run/work better on a ps vita? like someone ported gta sa to the vitas so im sure the game itself could run on it easily. And vitas are "easily modable" comparing to a psp when porting non official games, aswell as the resolution on the psp is really bad being 480x272 which im sure will be hard to see

Quote from https://mxsimulator.com/index.html
"Requires 2 GHz CPU with 1 GB RAM and 3D graphics accelerator with full OpenGL 1.1 support. Works on either Windows (XP or newer) or Linux."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable
The PSP uses two 333 MHz MIPS32 R4000 R4k-based CPUs, as a main CPU and Media Engine, a GPU running at 166 MHz, and includes 32 MB main RAM (64 MB on PSP-2000 and later models), and 4 MB embedded DRAM split between the aforementioned GPU and Media Engine.[42] The hardware was originally forced to run more slowly than it was capable of; most games ran at 222 MHz.[43] With firmware update 3.50 on May 31, 2007, however, Sony removed this limit and allowed new games to run at 333 MHz.[44]

...and that's for playing stock tracks with stock models and textures. Even when you consider it'd only have to render 480 × 272 pixels, the hardware is still not anywhere near as capable, let alone run mods.
