Different Setup Types for /writesetup and /readsetup

Post by bdownen323 »

I noticed that when you save a setup and check the setup file, it logs everything you had saved, which is why people will read an old setup and they will all of a sudden ride a different bike with a different team name and number. Would it be possible to change this to where there are several commands? I know if you delete lines from a setup file (everything but suspension, for example) then read that setup it will leave everything not listed in that file.\

Here's my suggestion for the setup commands:
  • /read(write)setup - Works just as before, writes and reads all lines under the "Bike Setup" tab
  • /read(write)suspension - Saves all items in the "Suspension & Gearing" page to a setup and reads only those setups
  • /read(write)stability - Saves/reads the "Stability" line from the Bike Setup page and all items in the "Advanced Stability Setup" page. Also saves/reads braking torque and max dab speed lines.
  • /read(write)skins - Saves/reads the following items: Name, Number, Bike model, Rider Skin, Bike Skin, Helmet Skin, and Wheel Skin.
  • /read(write)misc - Saves/reads only the bottom buttons in the Bike Setup homepage (arcade physics, dab when stopped, etc...)
Also JLV, I know I mentioned this before in the 1.10 update thread, but in the new snapshot can we get a change for the "Dabbing!" message? Possibly a menu button in the Bike Setup page called "Dabbing message" with the options to have it Off, On Start Only, or On (always shows) would work great.

Well you can kind of do this already. You just have to edit the file in notepad++ first. So like the first time you do /writesetup it will save everything. Then open the file and delete out the lines you dont want it to change when you do /readsetup the next time. I know this isnt exactly what you are asking for and it would get quite confusing and cluttered but kinda sorta?

I have done this quite a few times before, but it's kind of a pain to go in and edit the file every time you write a setup. Would be nice to have something that does it automatically.

I don't think it's worth it. The settings are so bike specific each one needs its own setup anyway.

What about advanced stability settings? I agree you may want different suspension/gearing for different bikes, but I'd imagine that the advanced stability would be similar. So you'd have to edit each setup file to remove the advanced stuff? Otherwise, if you change any of your advanced stability stuff (you found you like more roll damping, for instance), then reload a setup for a different bike, your advanced stability will be reverted.

I'm not really sure that separate commands would be necessary though.

What about looking for keywords after the setup filename, and only reading/writing the associated settings?

/readsetup kx450f_nationals suspension
/writesetup kx450f_nationals suspension

I suppose in lieu of modifying the game, one could write a script to filter and save different versions/configurations of setup files.

kx450f_nationals
kx450f_nationals_suspension
kx450f_nationals_stability
kx450f_nationals_skins
etc.

cant we just have a proper save setup page in the menu................like every other game.

half these forums are littered with posts about how to do simple things like "save a setup". it seems the pro forum users get blunt towards newbies for asking simple questions, but is it there fault or is it the lack of info in the UI....(I know a lot of the frustration is from them not searching the forums themselves as these same questions have been asked a lot.)
updating the user interface that has more information and more options would solve a lot of this simple confusion.

is the UI planned to ever be updated?

whilst im here and betting off topic... heres a brief wishlist for a new UI!!

- id like to see the servers listed in game and how many people are in each server.
- access to all stats in game - maybe even print top ten fastest laps on loading screen to each track.
-a "help bubble" appear each time the mouse is scrolled across different setting names to offer advice on what that particular setting does.
- also turn on track editor, write fps, ect from ingame menus.
-preview thumbnails of bike/gear sets or 3d preview screen.

really just "dummy it up" for all us not so good at remembering command types.

I still don't get it. Wouldn't you want to just do "/readsetup 450mx" instead of "/readsetup 450mxsuspension" then "/readsetup 450mxstabilizer" then "/readsetup 450mxskin"?

As far as creating new setups, why not just start with whatever's closest to what you want and modify that?

For example I want to load my Highpoint suspension from last season. I type "/readsetup highpoint" or whatever and it changes everything to what I was using during Highpoint last year. I had a little different stability and different bikes and gear back then so now I have to change everything back to what I run currently.

Or I could just type "/readsetup highpointsuspension" and it will only take my suspension from that setup so everything stays with what I have currently. You could just look in the notepad file and find the suspension but it's definitely not convenient.

I would just like to be able to do it for suspension and stability. I don't see a need to do it for skins or anything else.

I can see how you might want to merge different setups, but a text editor is ideal for that task. Imagine if I added a "/interactivereadsetup" command that reads the setup file and interactively lets you accept or reject each line. That'd be a very limited form of a text editor. May as well just use a real one.
