I have no problem with resistance with the bars dragging. The main thing that bothers me is the fact that when you "broomstick" you explode. You hit your bars and you go flying out of the rut. I'd like to see a type of resistance that, when leaned over too far, simulates the bars being dragged in the dirt. I would imagine this as being something that would simply make the front end tuck or make you tip over and slide out. When you lean too far over in a rut irl and bar drag or something you just catch and the resistance stops you and you just tip over. You dont explode when you hit the ground and going flying.

I'm just trying some stuff out here.

Looking at the bike model pivots. I saw that the grips are at a different position than what's currently used for the upper fork collisions. JLV probably has it's reason for this, but I still wanted to try it out.

This are the pivot points for the grips:
jlv wrote: /* left_grip_pos */
{ -1.097, 1.145, 0.753 },

/* right_grip_pos */
{ 1.097, 1.145, 0.753 },
Now, I roughly tried those as the collision sphere positions. Note that I changed the X coördinate so the collision spheres won't be wider than the actual grips. I also left the friction at .25, because JLV likes it that way.
Eventually I came up with this:

Code: Select all

2
-0.75 1.145 0.753 .5 .25 2500 250
0.75 1.145 0.753 .5 .25 2500 250

I'll give that a whirl.

I like that way better than frictionless grips. Not sure why I didn't use the same coordinates. Might have been trying to keep the collision from being half a foot over the bars.

Thanks Ben! I'm loving this as well.

I'm curious if this will help with bar banging as well. I'm sure it will help a little bit. Maybe lowering the friction and damping will improve bad banging. Not sure though since we can't test it really.

I'm planning on adding these settings to the next snapshot. If you don't like them, speak now or forever hold your peace.

This will definitely allow for more realistic deeper ruts with bumps and a higher inside to be used without having the bike stand up unexpectedly. I am all for it.
