Slower Gate Drop
Yes, this is a very petty thing to inquire about, but hear me out.
Whenever I want to make video edits of races in MXS, I never show slow-mo shots of the start. Why? Because this game makes us all look horrible at reacting to the gate drop. It finally got to the point when I thought, "there's no way we are all that slow to react to the drop right?"
So I asked Chase Dunivant to send me a slow-motion clip of a real gate drop so I could compare. Slowing both real life video and MXS video to be 4 times slower than real time, I found the results I was looking for and that you can refer to by watching the short 1:43 video. Watch below:
So, in short. I would like to suggest that JLV slows the gate down by about 4 times the speed it currently drops. If I'm not mistaken, the gate becomes an invisible object immediately after the first movement, correct? So it won't necessarily hurt the people who time the gate to get holeshots. But it will at least make all of the normal players look like we know how to react on first movement.
You can even see in the video that from the time the gate first moves until the riders react in both MXS and real life is nearly identical... It just looks like we're 4 times slower to react because the gate drops 4 times faster. I want to hear other opinions though.
Please discuss.

I figured I'd give him a chance after winning the 450 main. Bad idea I know.
Re: Slower Gate Drop
I'm pretty sure I just pulled a number out of the air for the gate drop speed. Looks like it's 1/16 of a second right now. The gate is a real object so slowing down the drop will make it easier to hit the gate. If that won't bother anyone I'll slow it down.

Re: Slower Gate Drop
Is there anything you can show us how to adjust on our own games to slow the gate drop rather than throwing it into an update? Kind of like the bars hitting the ground in turns thing. You were able to let us mess around with it before making the final decision.jlv wrote:I'm pretty sure I just pulled a number out of the air for the gate drop speed. Re: Slower Gate Drop
i knew it didnt go invisible, ive hit it before but rarely. i dont think we would mind, but like pottsy said it would be nice to try out.jlv wrote:I'm pretty sure I just pulled a number out of the air for the gate drop speed. Re: Slower Gate Drop
DP but i think if we had realistic gate drop times it would stop people from trying to time the gate and cheat it. the only reason i try it now is because the gate drops so fast its almost impossible to hit it

Don't think it would hurt anything so go ahead.jlv wrote:I'm pretty sure I just pulled a number out of the air for the gate drop speed. Looks like it's 1/16 of a second right now. Re: Slower Gate Drop
I think it's a good idea. I dont think hitting the gate would be a problem either.
Re: Slower Gate Drop
Now it will be harder to randomly jump the gate but it's quite easy now, I've always also reflected over "the slow reactions" compared to real life's immediate. Go ahead for me.

Re: Slower Gate Drop
Yeah starts will be more about reaction time and technique than trying to time the gate.
