Yes, for a new member who has never used any kind of software is difficult at first.

That was me, I wasn't really into software knowns (taking out Word, Excel and those ones) until I got Sim so because of that when I first started putting name and number on jerseys I was like:
 :x :x What the F is this thing called notepad ++???
 :x :x Hoy do I duplicate a layer in photoshop???
 :x :x If I am puting the Fox.jm why doesn't the gear show up correctly???

It's all about dedication and how much you want it.
I really wanted to make my own skins so I started learning Gimp and after that, Photoshop.
I'm from Spain so I got a little bit of sketchy times with YouTube MxSimulator tutorials but after a really long afternoon with a friend and a couple of days just trying things and investing I ended up knowing what that .jm thing is is and all that stuff.

With this said, I tottally agree that for a totally beginner can be difficult because you have to learn how to use different kind of software and the most dificult thing: the .jm stuff.
But as I said before, It's all about how bad you want it.

I used Sim as a motivation to learn Photoshop. Now I use the software really often in real life. It is really helpfull!

Here some designs I've done in Sim in case they inspire you:
