Game reset itself?

So I was working on a few things. Closed the game and reopened it moments later and everything was set back to default, I lost all my settings, controls, setups, etc. For some reason it suddenly had a snapshot from 2017. I didn't restart my PC or anything in between. Not sure what the hell happened or if it has happened to anyone else before.

It definitely happens to a lot of people although it's never happened on any of my systems. I always assumed it was something like an antivirus program going around randomly deleting files. This is the first time I've heard of someone getting switched to an older version. Maybe a drive error and Windows automatically went to a restore point?
