what exactly are snapshots

im new at the game and i dont know what they are. i downloaded one of them and the game is no different
Snapshots are minor, unofficial updates that JLV (maker of this game) releases which may include anything from simple visual or performance tweaks to more complex physics changes. Think of them as JLV changing something and the community testing it, and giving feedback on it.
When you see JLV say "Client is now version 6 (or whatever number)", that means it's a mandatory snapshot if you want to play in the racing server (19802).
