Ping spiking problems

Hey, at Jacksonville a few weeks back i randomly had these ping spikes on my PC and on Xbox it was so bad i couldnt really play, so i did a system restore a few days back and it was fine...

now it has happened today just randomly and it just goes up and down like a yoyo, so i guess ill just restore so i can race tomorrow...

Is there any general fixs for this? i guess it would have something to do with my router and modem, any help would be sweet.
