You gotta strike a balance between being easy in the whoops and being bouncy enough to consistently make the big rhythm sections. Decreasing your shock's compression damping, spring rate, and preload, and increasing rebound damping, will make it softer and thus easier to pin it through whoops, but it will be less bouncy and precise-feeling in the rhythm sections. Generally stiff forks are good for whoops and also jumping.

Decreasing your rebound damping makes it bouncier. I run very low rebound damping in my forks for supercross. Damping is resistance, or slows something down. Less rebound resistance= more rebounding/bouncing. It's all self-explanatory, really.
