i have completely gotten rid of the original textures in that pic i made all the textures white, i.e grass.ppm, grass-alt1.ppm, dirt.ppm etc all white. Then made my own textures (not very well
) using the shading.ppm to cover the whole track. The only problem being all other tracks have white textures now

Instead of replacing dirt.ppm and the other textures, you should use a unique name and change texturelist to point to it. Why are you using a camera? I'm guessing your running Vista and print screen doesn't work?
