Whats wrong with voting for yourself? The president can vote for himself in the election. A lot of people actually dont vote for themselves once they see the other posts.

It's in the rules, it's cheating. The president's vote for himself really doesn't matter all that much. How often does the state popular vote be decided by one vote? Here you have tons less votes, so every vote matters. If people vote for themselves, then there would be a lot of shots with 1 or 2 votes and there would be lots of ties ect.
