Track Building Time-Lapses

Post by ColtonD719 »

While working with the EMF track crew on this years' nationals, I started recording time-lapses of the things I was working on, partly to help me remember how to do things, but also to share with any other track creators who might be interested.

First up is my process in creating the terrain for Ironman, using real height data and Blender. This is the same process I used for creating Washougal.

Sorry for the lack of polish and janky voiceover, but I'd probably never get around to uploading it if I spent any more time on it, ha. The speed is 30x realtime, so I skim past a lot of details, but hopefully there's enough there to inspire ideas. Feel free to ask any questions. If you find this interesting at all, I'll try and get Part 2 up in the next few days.

Tools used:
The National Map - https://viewer.nationalmap.gov/basic/#startUp
QGIS 3 - https://www.qgis.org/en/site/
Adobe Photoshop
Blender 2.77a - https://www.blender.org
