Wow I have no idea, but if someone figured out how to get that 2 stroke sound in game I would shit my pants. That sounds so good!

read the comments on those videos...

he took sounds from real bikes and edited them onto the video.

Ahh would be so sick if we actually could have those sounds in game. Probably one of those things we need most.

The problem with prerecorded sounds is that it doesn't sound natural and realistic in the game. The Motocross Madness series and the MVA series use a sound system like that, and it has major flaws. In fact, its fake in a sense. You aren't hearing the engine whined through gears, you are just hearing a variety of looped sound files.

The sound system JLV uses is actually superior, it just needs to be optimized and the right settings need to be found.

Car racing simulation games use a whole bunch of sounds meshed together to get a realistic sound. Not only will they use engine sounds, but also gear whine, intake aspiration, etc.

For example, GTR2 uses a sound recording for every 1000 or so RPM's. As you increase the engines RPM, it meshes the sounds from 1000 rpm and 2000rpm to make a sound for 1500rpm. As you get near 2000rpm it uses only the 2000rpm sound. As you approach 2500rpm, it will use the 2000rpm and 3000rpm sounds meshed together. Furthermore, it uses different sounds for acceleration and deceleration. So accelerating (load) sounds different than deceleration (unloaded).

Its the best way to make accurate engine sounds in a game. Problem with this is that JLV would have to get access to all the bikes in the game and use ultra high sensitive studio quality microphones to record the sounds of the bikes at various rpms. Also, he'd need a dyno to run the bikes on. It's not exactly an easy task to perform.

I'm planning on taking another shot at crossfading prerecorded sounds once the SX season is over. While a dyno/studio would be ideal I think I'll be able to get away without it by writing some software to normalize regular recordings. (By "normalize" I mean force a sound that is close to a certain RPM range to be that exact RPM.)

Naturally you'll focus more on the two strokes right? ;)
