Except the pixelmapper suggestion was for objects. If you go back a few pages youll see SMR's pics of grass which he used the pixelmapper to place.

Can use it for either I think but yea I only used it for statue grass (rather unsuccessfully as far as frame rate and looking good). Pixelmapper worked awesome though as I was able to place 3 different sizes by creative use of Noise, Clouds, Posterize, and Curves in PS.
