ok i kinda figured it out.... with l3dt i was able to make a nice rolling hill / natural terrain track then i manipulated the terrain hf file with notepad+ to change it more .

as for photoshop you need grab a satelite image and terragram the height dimension into ps/ gimp and rezise to 1025x1025 then you can load that jpeg file into l3dt and it will render the terrain for you , use brush tool to smooth then load back into game edito and use jlv game editor to build

ill post a deeper how to with l3dt later on...

TFC has a good video as well for mxbikes, keep in mind we need a png not a raw heightmap.

In Texas we have a website that has lidar scans of most of the state, I just enter the county that the track is in and search around the area until I find the physical location and then crop and export the file as a png.

The heightmap that is exported is extremely detailed, like almost enough that the jump shapes/track outline are already there, not perfect by any means, but enough that all you really need to do is just manipulate what's already there to your liking. That's how I made Oak Hill, and coming from a local there I personally feel like it's extremely accurate to real life.

I'm not sure if every state has a website like that, but it's worth checking out. You can even get high quality satellite imagery from the same website to use as an overlay.
