How much have you got done? I'd love to check it out in game.

Maybe with how popular rF is getting and all the love, it'll grow big enough to send someone to all the nationals and supercross tracks with a drone and this software.
well pretty much nothing yet xD just got the track in game and smoothed out all the surroundings . (wich is more work that you think with all the trees and grass but obv much more time efficient than making it manually.) still need to remove some jagged edges on the track. rides surprisingly well but it's a little bit unpredicteble sometimes.
I can imagine the scan would be better if you made it a cloudy day and it would be less jagged edges. This scan was pretty much made worst wheather and time possible.

would be really cool to see this in the future for the sx especially with how good quality the scan would have in such a small area. 1:1 haterz gonna hate

If you do the math with membrships sold. I'm sure you'd have more than enough money. But that means track creators working pro bono for another year *gasps* while someone is using the money to go get scans.

Ok so I did the maths

Without any professional software/hardware ie- Drone capable of carrying suitable camera equipment and then the actual 3d scanner itself it comes to
---$10220
Just for MX which is doable if you get at least 511 members paying their $20 (Membership fee) donation (which is like 16% of their total members of the top of my head)

With professional equipment which is required to get anything usable further than just a basic guide it comes to
---$17720 Again just for MX

Only 2 people I know of have made this kind of money from MXS so after exhausting all options and even considering RF could just send their nearest member to each round I have came to the conclusion that this unfortunately is very unlikely.

Don't forget that FAA has regulations. You'd probably have to send the same person to each round. Unless more people start applying for one of these.

Hi guys! Putting on the final touches on my first try at making a full track... I've learnt a lot and spent a lot of hours on this. Storken's and SYS's tutorials made everything easier... but I still have some doubts that you may can solve...

First some pics of the track:

As you can see, I placed the trees shadows using decals.

Now, I want to make shadows for the haybales, house, gates... And I've seen that some of you, make a decal with the size of the track and so, you put in that decal the shadows via photoshop.

Well, I tried the same. I wen't to my "terrain".png file in my track folder and took the dimensions of that image.

Then, my track is 1025x1025. So I open a new document in Photoshop with those dimensions. I take a image of the track and put it on that document.

Untill here, I think I am doing everything ok... the problem is:

When I open the game to see how the opacity of the sahdows are, they aren't placed where they should be.

Here's a pic of what I mean:

So I guess, the key to the problem is in this numbers:

Could anyone help me on how to get it correctly please? Thanks for your time!

yeah that got me horny. cool spreadsheet.

One extra year of free tracks (sx/mx) could potentially save up enough money for it, once you have a base you wouldn't need to keep going only for major changes

Few things that could factor in/eliminate costs to think about:

-$25 membership (sx may be even more if you think its about $2 per round)
-You could save up money with 2017 SX/MX and im sure make that much (whats the overall amount of money brought in and split between how many rF members? im sure that wont get disclosed. but its a decent chunk)
-Doesnt need to be a current rF member that does it (you mentioned race)
-said person can have a M-Th full time job eliminating friday lost wages (saved ~$1,200)
- Said person can already have drone, savings, or willingness to pitch in own money for 3d scanning shit (this could create problems so maybe not, but i dont see how using personal drone would) (potential $500+ saved)
-Ticket Costs to races could be eliminated/reduced with donations of tickets/knowing people to get free entry to a national isnt hard.
-Central US person could reduce costs, also kinda curious to see what driving instead of flying would be cost wise.
- Accomodation could be eliminated with sleeping in said car if driving ^ (Sprinter van, etc)

Vusstos, those images you link are the same it seems (same url). What you can do is render shadows with POVRay that will render an image that you open in photoshop and save as "shadows.pgm" and walla, they should be in game. Also if you want a good shadow decal, make it 4k or 8k. If you make it "1k", 1px (usually 1 or 2 feet in game) will be very big, so the shadows will be very squared and pixelated. If you make it 4k, you will have 4x4px in the same area that you had 1x1px previously, and if you have it as 8k, you'll have 8x8px's in the same area you had 1 before.

With the orientation, what do you mean? If you use billboards, they'll be spinning around while the shadows are still the same. Again, if you would use POVray, you would not have any hassle of having to deal with the fence for example, as you in this case would need to make 1 shadow more skewed than the previous one, if the fence would be angled another way ;)

Sorry if I interpreted things wrong, I'm known for misunderstanding things hehe..
