I have a little of Red Bud done, but wasn't planning on finishing it (have the base, and from the first turn to where you start to exit the main valley pretty much done- besides rough and ruts).

Forgot to say that wasn't using Haggqvist's files though, I did it on my own a while ago, so I don't know if the files for the base are updated from what I have or not.

Gio isn't using my files either, he made his own as well.
There hasn't been any updates recently to the Red Bud area so the base is the same.
Updates to the USGS NED can be viewed here. It's worth checking every once in a while since they do bi-monthly updates to the datasets.

I forgot to add in the first post that some of the terrain.hf files only contains the z-range. The scale needs to be calculated from the image size of the disp cutout from the base terrain.psd.
This is easily done using the spreadsheets included with each track.

Here's a short how-to:
- Measure a distance in [px] between two points in the base.terrain.psd, preferably as far apart as possible, using a ruler tool. Put that number into cell A4 in the spreadsheet.
- Measure the exact same distance [ft] in Google earth using the ruler tool and then put that number into cell B4.
- Put the image size [px] of your disp cutout from the base terrain in cell D4.
- Input the size of the disp you are going to use in cell F4.
- Use the number calculated in G4 as the scale in the terrain.hf file.

The last two cells in the spreadsheet are the scale and coordinate used for a reference orthophoto decal.

I only meant that the files could be used to make new versions of the tracks, not that the actual files were from 2011.
The elevation data for Steel City was produced from LIDAR data collected before December 2010.
The dates of updates along with other meta-info about the NED datasets can be viewed here.

I dont understand...is there a formula I should be using when inputting the px size etc into the certain spots in a spreadsheet? Cant I just put 2049 as the scale?

There's not really an easier way to explain it than the quote you posted above...
