Re: Making a track with erode.
Ive tried doing this and just cannot do it. what should erode be set on?DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:I was tinkering around with the erode feature on San Diego when i stumbled upon a little trick....
I was laying down laps being very consistent with the throttle trying to get nice ruts to form like they do in real life.
When i played back the race to see how my suspension was reacting to the newly formed bumps i notice that the terrain was being eroded during the playback.
So, upon entering the turn i would hit "rewind" just as i was exiting the corner which would reset me back to the entry.
Within a couple seconds i had a nice smooth (but realistically choppy) naturally formed rut that you see here...

After turning the erode feature off and hitting the rut a few times i was amazed at how realistic it felt.
I was wondering if anybody else was using this tactic on their tracks?
Im probley way late on this.....but i thought it was pretty slick.
Re: Making a track with erode.
I couldn't get it to work either, I could use erode riding but it wouldn't affect anything while watching a demo.

Re: Making a track with erode.
I noticed you gotta have your roost up somewhat for the erode to work .
Re: Making a track with erode.
yes erode is based on roost....

That wouldn't have mattered though, I have it set to 1k.

I tried that but nothing actually happend when i was on playback modeDJ_Diehl#777 wrote:I was tinkering around with the erode feature on San Diego when i stumbled upon a little trick....

Re: Making a track with erode.
Thats odd, it works for me?
Re: Making a track with erode.
and for me also.
Those who possess strength have also known adversity.
Re: Making a track with erode.
Never EVER thought of doing that DJ-D, but that's a great idea! Gonna start doing the ruts for my corners like that now.
Re: Making a track with erode.
are u guys updating ur map after u let it run like that a bunch??
Re: Making a track with erode.
Let's clear this out. I named it --erode 1.0 or something and got roost on 250. Ride once go to playback mode and print rewind like you said. Even if I've hitted it like 50 times it doesn't change, maybe first time before i hitted rewind.DJ_Diehl#777 wrote:Thats odd, it works for me?
Re: Making a track with erode.
Works best with hi-res disp map. Must update shading to see results, and I'm not sure if you need to save, exit, then replay again. Only reason for that is, after multiple runs the rear tire is no longer in contact with the ground. I couldn't get very deep runs even with like 30 runs on a .9 sized map, 1024. Theory is still gold though.
Re: Making a track with erode.
If you want deeper ruts, you might try raising the terrain slightly first. Create a gradient that is level and as high as you want the rut to be deep. Switch to linear add mode and fill the whole track. Now the bike in the demo should be underground by that amount and will dig deeper ruts. I haven't tried it myself but I think it will work.
