Grass, and transparant things.
I've been trying to find a grass texture, and I got a nice looking one, that is really green, so I dulled it down to a more earthly tone, and I went to put it in the game and it looks like shit. It looks like a picture slapped onto the terrain, it doesn't look good, and it looks really tiled. So, this question is more to Gordy than anyone else, how the hell did you make your grass textures look so nice?

is it being affected by shading or decals?

No, the shading is normal, no editing, and the decals is what I am trying to put down. I'm kind of going the same way that Thunder Valley went. With the dirt texture everywhere, with decals covering the entire thing.
(Yes, I know I am referencing a lot to Thunder Valley, but that track is badass.)

Have a look in the Thunder Valley folder. Its like a round green patch he made. I think he also added some green in shading.ppm

There is no round green patch. :/
I'm just going to stick with the stock grass texture, layed under the decal'd track. It looks fine, but it could be better.

Re: Grass, and transparant things.
what i did with my grass textures, as you can see above, is make a green round grass texture, and then turn down the opacity.
its more of a case of trial and error with it, turn down the opacity a bit, and look in the game, and then adjust accordingly and so on and so on.
i find that you have to be really subtle with your colours with decals in the game.

Yeah, with GIMP there is no way to make an entire image transparent. I've been trying and looking all over the internet, and I can't find a way.

you can make images transparent with gimp...At the top of your image there is a menu...click Dialogs Layers to open the Layers dialog. Next click the layer you want to be transparent and slide the opacity slider to the left until you have the desired transparency.
