Naming system

Post by ddmx »

When I release my contest track, I will also be releasing all of the custom objects that I put into it. These include bales, banners, the semi, and all of the skins i created for them. This will all become public. They will be saf'ed. (Does that stand for safe? hmmm) We should come up with a conventional naming system for objects that way as more and more become available it won't become confusing. Here are some ideas.

For small bales:
The object: bale.jm
The skin: bale_logoname.png
The collision: bale.shp

For long bales
bale_long.jm
bale_long_logoname.png
bale_long.shp

For overhead banners:
The object: banner_tall.jm
The skin: banner_tall_ logoname.png
The collision: banner_tall.shp

Is this a good idea to try and all have the same format for objects? Input is welcome.

I'd say so.

I've got so many objects/textures going on that I'm confused about all of them. :D

I also say we organize the entire forum a lot more. (Delete old files, and .saf everything, so you don't need to search through 10 pages of posts to find something.

Also, it would be safe'd.

post how you think objects should be named, i will update the first post. When someone makes a skin or a new object they can know how to name it. Updating old files is also a necessity.

Really the same thing, for all of them.

Just for object, if there are two sizes (AKA Bales), you could do
bale_large.jm,
bale_large_logoname.png,
bale_large.shp.
