Dry Ridge MX 2013

Post by VMX_SKYmx99 »

Someone asked me last week to reupload Dry Ridge MX, which was my first track released in 2011. I decided to give it an overhaul and take the opportunity to practice using ground shaders. I left everything else untouched except for the timing gates, which were a mess. I know it's a bit rough around the edges, but I honestly forgot how much fun this track is/was. I know I don't release a lot of stuff, but hopefully this little update gives me the kick in the pants I need to make a new track.

I would like to thank Jay for letting me use his rut decal. I made all of the others myself. Feel free to use them if you would like. I would like some feedback on the decals and shaders if anyone has some constructive criticism. This was the first time I haven't borrowed decals from another track creator.

If you have the original track, you may need to delete it from your personal folder before installing this one....

Sorry for DP but, I just wanted to say there's no roost, I said it in your other Dry Ridge Thread, but I wanted to put it here too (to make sure you saw it) Overall my favorite track in sim. Fantastic Job.

Your red and green channels in the normal maps are inverted. When they are both inverted, it gives the normal map an upside down look. It was most evident in the cracked dirt (shown below). Just invert the the red and green channel in photoshop. Make sure your normal map plugin has Invert X checked, and Invert Y and Z unchecked.

From left to right: Your normal map -> Your normal map with Red and Green inverted -> A normal map I made (I kinda went overboard with the depth)

Isn't the peeled up at the edges look intentional? Inverting it makes it look like tiles instead of a dry lake bed.

Hmmm, maybe. But all of his normal maps were inverted, so I don't think he did it on purpose
