Re: Niklas Sandbox MX - most realistic track ever
It's nice to see people trying some new stuff.
It's definitely an interesting way of making tracks eventhough I don't think you can get as much details as with decals even with a 16k texture.
There must be a better compromise between texture size, decals, maps and overlays to achieve similar results.
Concerning the textures, yours are 4098x4098 (low) and 8196x8196 instead of 4096x4096 and 8192x8192. This causes a pixelated texture and the out of memory error.

This is so cool. I hope you stick with it. And iron out the kinks.

Pretty cool! I've seen this done and have attempted it with things like helmets and boots but you're the first to do a track.

This is so awesome!
I remember making tracks like this for my toys all the time when I was younger.

Re: Niklas Sandbox MX - most realistic track ever
I'm not going to make a tutorial on this, because this is super advanced stuff, and I could write a book abut this.
But for everyone who is very familiar with 3D software, I tell you the main steps. And I say it again, this is very advanced. So start small, like the track I built first.
You need:
1. sandbox (at least 3x3 meters)
2. good camera (mine is a Eos 100D)
3. a gamer PC (you really want to have this, or you will have thousands of crashes)
4. Agisoft Photoscan Proffesional (there is a 30 day free trail)
5. Blender
6. The knowledge to built tracks in mx simulator (how to import highmaps and decals etc.)
First, built the track and take about 100 to 500 fotos of it. each foto has to overlap with about 80% which the foto befor and after.
Using Agisoft Photoscan Proffesional, built a 3D model (about 1000000 polygons) and a texture (about 16k) and export it as .obj. (there are several tutorials on youTube for Agisoft scanning)
Import the .obj in Blender. Render out an orthografic hightmap (you can use the mist pass for this), which later becomes the terrain.png into you mx sim folder.
Render out an orthografic texture (depending on the size of youre track, you may want to split this texture later in smaller parts, like four 8k textures).
Using the hightmap and the texture you can built a mx sim track from it. You will have to smooth out the whole track a little bit, so that playing it on sim is possible.
This is only the main idea, if youre a pro at 3D software, I think you can built you own track with this steps. For all the other peoples, I don't recommend trying this, because you will definately fail

Re: Niklas Sandbox MX - most realistic track ever
Thank you! I wasn't ecactly sure about the reselution in 4k and 8k. Now I could play it on high detail settings (every slider on the top)yFMX wrote:Concerning the textures, yours are 4098x4098 (low) and 8196x8196 instead of 4096x4096 and 8192x8192. For everyone: If you have Gimp or Photoshop, just scale the image "texturv2" down to 4096x4096 or 8192x8192. This will improve the performance, and you wont get the error "out of virtuel memory".
I also uploaded the 8k version with the correct size:

Re: Niklas Sandbox MX - most realistic track ever
A question: Does anybody know a track from where I can grab a nice desert skybox which fits to the sand?

Very cool, i just can't get it to work... And i have a great pc 4690k, r9 290 and 8gb ram. I'v tried really low settings in game and the low res file but the game keeps crashing for some reason.

Re: Niklas Sandbox MX - most realistic track ever
oops, got it working now!
The track would be amazing if it was longer, i don't find it too rough at all! I would love to see more tracks from you!
