PureMXS - repository

Post by Wahlamt »

We all know that puremxs.com went under a while back, even before that it was a period where most of the uploads there was just trolls or really poorly made stuff. If we look even further back, puremxs used to be a goldmine of quality stuff. Seemingly every upload had a track or a skin which someone had tried their best to make it as good as they could.

I know most new players might not care or aren't interested in these old tracks, either due to them "not looking very good" or just being slippery. Yet, I think a lot of people would appreciate some of the tracks that were on there, and some OG's coming back, having a place to relive some good memories.
How will this work? Simply link the track/skins/models that you want to share from the puremxs site here or to me in PM and I'll add it to the list. Do not use weird archive names such as "oldtrack.rar", but do use the real track name (often same as the folder name) like "2010_red_bud.rar" or something similar. If you can, please also add who ever made the content, so we can properly give credit.

Some of these might have back-ups on the forum (since they had a topic with the puremxs link in it), but that doesn't matter, they can still be put here as they were on puremxs.

Clarification: LTS stands for "Long term support". Some content were either uploaded to both puremxs and forum/mediafire, or just uploaded to the forum, but has gone missing or is simply just old and could run the risk of going missing if the link dies. Therefore I've put in some mirrors that I have mostly uploaded by accident, but I'd also like to host in case the original link would die.

Other good "old" links:
Track Comp 2009 MX: http://mxsimulator.com/trackcomp1/tracks.html
Track Comp 2010 MX: http://forum.mxsimulator.com/viewtopic.php?t=6376
Track Comp 2010 SX: http://www.mediafire.com/file/g8nnf959muyyl5k/2010+SX+Competition+Tracks.7z

Necessary Object Packs
A lot of the older tracks utilized some object packs, download these and put them into your installation folder. Some tracks will not work properly without these, as some objects contain collisions etc, meaning that a player with the object pack will not be able to play with a player who doesn't have the object packs. Download all of the ones in the link below.

I did fiddle with the idea, but you'd have to pay quite a bit for the servers, since you'd both need space, data (download/upload) and just rental fees in general.

Maybe you could get donations to start it up and maybe put ads on there later? I don't know anything about websites or how ads on websites work so probably not.

Donations wouldn't be hard for the first year I think, it would be the years to follow. After considering option "A" (which I forgot about and went to "B" before) it was cheaper than I expected. Yet I don't know if people would bother with it. I know I would, but I do believe that the site could potentionally lose its traffic/interest quite soon, especially since I believe a lot of new players wouldn't enjoy the tracks... It's tough, it would be fun to have, but is it worth it? Or is it better to keep it in a thread like this...

Yeah, you make a good point. If there was a way to organize this thread so it was more user friendly it would be like a website.
