This is from a paper I had to read and write a reflection about for my Psychology class. It was about how violent video games relate to aggression.
Losing in sim and our subsequent frustrations is teaching us that aggressiveness is the correct way of dealing with frustrating situations . What as the outcome of this study? Violent video games cause higher levels aggression over a long period of time than non-violent video games. ORLY? Was so hard to read that, especially when you disagree with so much stuff they're talking about...A Longitudinal Study of the Association Between Violent Video Game Play and Aggression Among Adolescents - Teena Willoughby, Paul J.C. Adachi, Marie Good - Brock University wrote:...In fact, all of these game
characteristics could interact to influence aggression. For example,
the high level of competition and the fast pace of action often
found in violent video games may increase physiological arousal,
and this arousal might result in aggressive behavior (Anderson &
Morrow, 1995; see Deutsch, 1949; Rocha & Rogers, 1976; and
Sherif & Sherif, 1956, for a discussion of the link between competition
and aggression). Consistent with Berkowitz’s (1989)
frustration–aggression hypothesis, competition in video games
also may influence frustration if the player is losing in a competitive
game, which in turn may elevate aggressive behavior. In
addition, competitiveness may influence aggressive cognitions
by activating associative links between aggression and competition
developed through a variety of past experiences with
competitive situations that have resulted in aggressive outcomes
(Anderson & Carnagey, 2009; Anderson & Morrow,
1995). Thus, in the long term, competitive and fast-paced video
game play may teach people that aggression is an appropriate
way of dealing with related increases in frustration and arousal.
Prior to turning to the empirical research in this area, however,
it is important to note that most video game studies, including
the present study, have not isolated the impact of these different
game characteristics (i.e., violent content, competition, pace of
action) when examining the association between violent video
games and aggression.

I'm pretty sure i'f you're in a competitive sport, you would go through what the games give all of the time. Motocross is a great example. We all get so competitive, and we also get very angry at the track or even at home (whether we show it or not).
THOSE are the parent's that aren't teaching their children the right way. The best way to teach someone is to egg them on to do it until they get bored of it. Like my friend Cody with alcohol. Both of his parents wanted him to start drinking with them when camping at about 15. He didn't really like drinking, but they kept egging him on. He didn't really even drink. Still doesn't and he's turning 19 in 2 weeks... I guess it's different because the effects of alcohol are much much different than that of video games, but it would be the same basic theory.
Suspension is off my bike and getting done. Cutting my header/midpipe into 2 separate pieces, because I hate having to remove my whole exhaust just to get my shock off. It's stupidly hard to get the shock rotated so that the header will fit through, and even then, you need another person holding the shock away from the pipe so that it has enough room.

I have played competitive games basically all the time. I actually can't think of a game that I've owned that wasn't even the slightest bit of a competition and I have gotten in a record 0 fights in my lifetime. Am I the exception or did they monitor the exception?

Same goes for me.

I forget what the movie is called, but for some reason the power was lost in a whole city, and there was some dude who had a ton of generators and was the only guy who had power. He was on his computer playing games . Think he was a hacker or something. That's what I envision JLV doing, having his whole house lit up with some music playing while browsing the forums, and the rest of the city is pitch black .Ballsfalsky wrote:Same goes for me.
