3d animation/renders

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

years of experience i would say, if you know how a mesh acts when turbosmoothed you can do almost everything you want without getting weired areas. here is wire of the cover if it helps to understand how this particular thing was made.

Ah perfect thanks for that p2sta, thats clear now, cause I was wondering if those rings around the cover were modeled or mapped, but im assuming they were mapped since they aren't on that wire.
Thanks for the wire, very curtious.

That was the first thing i asked, was going to post last night but i didnt know if p2sta wanted to give away his secrets or whatever haha, its a normal map but you cant tell now by the wire frame.

Oh ok cool, probably displacement mapping would work best, but wasn't sure if that was the case.

yeah...you need to determinate whats better to model and what can be just normal map/displacement. if its wort modeling or not, like the rings or the logo, it would be cool to have it modeled, thats for sure, but totally unnecessary when you can do it way quicker with just normal map

I was just as surprised to see that here as anyone else. I don't even remember making that post so I can't help with an explanation  .
