I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

Damn wish I had seen this earlier...
Yea that was a crazy deal, usually the "shell shocker" deals are like $10 off normal price but that PSU normally goes for like $89.

Haven't really posted on here before but here is a build that I'm almost done with and can finally get back to playing MXS after a loooong 6 grueling months off. First time really building my PC from scratch as my old one was a prebuilt that I just put a GTX650 card and upgraded the ram in so you could say I'm a little excited to test this one. Hope I made a good decision on the parts. I have not actually bought a HDD or OS yet because I thought I was going to be able to transfer the HDD from my old PC to the new one but the hard drive was fried so those are the last 2 things I need to purchase this week before I can get to playing again.

-Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz
-Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150
-Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
-Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" SSD
-Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB DirectCU II
-Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower
-Thermaltake 750W 80+ Gold

Im planning on buying a desktop and was just wondering if it would be able to run a 40 man gate on mxs on pretty high settings. A guy I know is selling his desktop for $1600 and I was wondering if it was a good deal.
Here are the specs:
EVGA GTX 980 4GB GDDR5 - Factory Overclock
Intel i7 4770K CPU
Asus Gryphon Z87 LGA 1150 Mainboard
Kingston HyperX Red 8GB Memory
Corsair AX760W Full Modular Platinum PSU
Corsair H60 CPU Liquid Cooler
Fractal Design Arc Mini Case
Intel 520 180GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1.5TB x 2 Raid 1 Setup
Windows 7 Professional

That's probably close to retail price on that system but I guess it is fairly new. Should play sim almost maxed w/40 riders depending on how many skins you have and stuff like that.

Hey!

I'm not a hardware guy really so I got some questions! Next time I'm going to upgrade my pc, I'll probably get a new CPU, Intel this time. Which leads me in a need of a new motherboard. (preferably DDR4 RAM memories...) Currently I got an Asrock 960 and an AMD FX4100 3.4GHz 4core AM3+ Socket CPU. So what CPU especially, would be a good one, for mxs. Also how big of a deal is the motherboard?

Considering you want DDR4 the motherboard is a huge difference maker. DDR4 is only supported by one socket type as of right now, 2011-3. This socket is the enthusiast heavy stuff with 6/8-core i7's, and tons of features on the board. CPU's in this socket range from $500-$1000 and are meant for multitasking or production, not games. A 2011-3 CPU, motherboard, and DDR4 RAM is going to be around $1200 at cheapest is my guess because nothing is made in that category yet for "consumer grade".

Oh, didn't realize that. If I stick with the regular DDR3 RAM, how would it be than?

Then you could bring your RAM from your current build over (4GB minimum, if you can match what you had and double the amount would be ideal for function and price) but Then you have a wide variety in socket 1150 as there has been Haswell and Haswell Refresh series so there is a wide variety of i3/i5/i7 but I would recommend a i5. Motherboard sweetspot is around $100-130. For an i5, decent board, and starting fresh with 8GB RAM $350-400 or cheaper depending on what you do with RAM.

Thanks a lot! Now I have 8GB or ram, so that's enough, for now at least. 350-400$ seems fairly okay. I've read on forums a little, and it seems that people prefer an i5 and 1150 for gaming? Any particular reason?

An i5 is essentially an i7 without hyperthreading, so the difference in gaming performance between the two is basically nonexistent. 1150 just supports the Haswell and Broadwell processors.

Intel has stronger cores, the i5 because its future proof enough over the i3 that you don't have to fear a bottleneck of any kind but still not outrageously overpriced like an i7, socket 1150 because its the newest one out.

8GB of RAM is enough for games, get a 4690k (~$240 without sales) and one of those sweetspot motherboards I mentioned and you'll be good for a long time. Plenty of people are still using the i5 2500k which came out in late 2010 and see no reason they should be looking to upgrade (still outperforms AMD FX-6 cores).

Did anyone see the new 960's? Not really pleased with the new releases honestly. 2GB VRAM and 128bit. I would've thought 3gb and 196 with these new cards.

The 760 was out of range for the a #60 card normally is. I agree its abit underwhelming but thats essentially what this card is supposed to be.

Okay, that explains quite some things! I'll see whenever I have enough money saved up to buy something... I would at least be able to run Nvidia shadowplay, my cpu's apparently too bad.. Thanks for the info!

Have to agree with Puma, the 760 was over achieving (by design) and the gap from 750-760 and 760-770 were uneven. Now it seems like the gaps between them will be more even. With how inexpensive the 970 is for what you get it is a very attractive card. Compare them with 770s of the 4gb variety and it becomes clear it is a winner.

The 960 isn't something you buy to replace your 760, but it is an attractive card to replace a 750 or put in a new build where you buy everything new.
