New MX vs. ATV Reflex Preview

I've heard conversation coming out of animal pens that is more intelligent than what is going on in here.

some of those look like 09 honda 450s with black backrounds

Is that through the pixel shaders?

I can only assume he means when normal, bump, and parralax mapping come into play. And yes, they are types of shaders. They greatly enhance the detail, and perception of depth. It actually looks like we are using higher def skins though, pixel wise, than they are.

Yeah, we would be using higher res skins, but we are pretty inefficient to be honest.

Just looked up parallax mapping. I think it would be too complex, and normal mapping would be sufficient enough. I don't think I've played a game that uses parallax mapping.

Crysis uses parallax mapping, and I think that game made it famous.

Boy I tell ya, I look at those screens and come to this conclusion:

There's nothing graphically about that game that MX SIM dosen't have to offer, other then the normal/bump mapping or whatever on the skins.

The resolution of the skins isn't any better then what we have.

I see them using LOD's for their vegitation objects - which appear to be no better then the veggie models they used in MvA - which are better then what we have (right now) but I foresee that changing (and there's no technical reason we couldn't do better).

Track textures are no better then the decal system we use.

They have way better stadium enviroment models but outdoors - they don't look much different.

The main difference, as I see it, is the time they devote to creating their enviroment compared to what we (as hobbiests) can do. The actual content they havent isn't any better (although certainly more extensive) at all.

Of course it's the physics that make or break a MX game - and MX Sim is the only one that's come close to getting it right IMO. Maybe Rainbow can get er done with this one - but their track record indicates MX Sim will still have the best MX physics.

Their lighting is better though, forgot to add that (seriously I don't get why we can't edit posts here)
