The ruts do not disappear, the terrain actually is deforming and doesn't reload until the level reloads. What you are seeing go away is the tire track, the visual "rut" you had in the Unleashed games and in Untamed. This does not affect physics, it's purely visual, the deformed ground stays there both visually and affects the physics.

Unless you are using parallax mapping of course, I guess that could explain why it appears to be shifting, because its only small ruts that change
