As SMR said there is a reason it is illegal in many countries. The sad part about them is they thrive off of the ignorance of people that drag in all their friends and family on some "get rich quick" idea.

Whenever you'll learn Dutch/German/French you'll find decent sources and will understand that in Belgium Emgoldex isn't illegal.
So is Umicore (a Belgian government supported enterprise) working together with Emgoldex to make money on buying/selling gold on the right moments on the stock market, and probably even dodging taxes, but of course that last bit is nowhere confirmed xD.

Also DKV insurances (HQ in Germany) uses this kind of pyramid in their selling system (whilst you claim the whole system is illegal). They only have a handful of own hired salespeople and the other salespeople are all persons who are basically a company on their own getting payed by DKV, with another job in their daily life. That pyramid might collapse one day (however a lot of new people are born everyday) but that's a risk that the players know and are willing to take.

I do wonder however, is it now illegal on this forum or not? This forum running on an American server with an American admin, having a lot of international registrants and being on the world wide web.

There are companies out there that use a pyramid style of business, it's called MLM (Mult-Level Marketing), in which the company sells products and distribution to individuals. The difference between the two? Pyramid schemes main goal is membership, this is because the whole idea in the end is it has to fail, somebody has to lose for the top to gain. Now a MLM's main focus is their products, they do not push membership, investment fees, kickbacks for getting others involved, etc. The only way you make money from them is if you go out and sell your product.

Seems like a pretty fine line huh? Not really, bull shit schemes like EMgoldex hide behind these MLM guidelines, when in reality they are really pushing their "gold membership" as their main target, and promising you more kickback if you get others involved. It's not that pyramids schemes "might fall apart one day", they will, that is what they are designed to. Which is exactly why they are illegal in many countries. So now please, tell me how I'm the idiot here? You speak off of biased opinion and hatred toward the Americans/United States, how can anyone take you seriously? If you honestly think these pyramid schemes are good, you are pathetic loser.

Wikipedia is probably a better source than the sources you seems to get all you information from. Wikipedia has a community of admins, professors, scientists, engineers, etc. that validate the information that is put up. Granted some may be off but I would trust it more than the sources you pull out of your ass.

And to answer your question yes it would be illegal on this forum, as I would like to bet it is registered in the US as well as on a US server. That is how torrent sites get away with what they do, their servers are in countries where the law will not effect them. In the end it shouldn't matter if they are illegal or not, the people that are behind them are scum, and the ones who believe in them are just ignorant.

Washington law declares the following practices illegal under the Anti-pyramid Promotional Schemes Act:
(1) No person may establish, promote, operate, or participate in any pyramid scheme.

I assume it would be the same for all states, this is just what I found with a quick search.

The money has to come from somewhere. If there was really a subscription where you sent them $400 and then they just sent you $3200 checks all the time we would all already be signed up. This is not that, it is for some people but it is also a way people lose all their savings.

When more than 50% of the money is coming from membership fees then it is unsustainable and someone is losing money. If they actually sold a product and that was the majority of the income then it would be a different story.
