MXS Twitter
Re: MXS Twitter
Because the population of the US is much greater than that of other countries. 5% of people in New Zealand is 200,000 people, while 5% in the US is 15,000,000.
Re: MXS Twitter
Yeah America is the most populated in the world. So that's 75 Americans to one kiwi based on that we should have one shooting a year. To bad that doesn't happen. Guess that logic is wrong?
Hi
Re: MXS Twitter
You opinion isn't gonna change, so I'm sorry for not having the answers you desire.
Re: MXS Twitter
Are you saying you have less than 1 shooting death per year?
You are also not taking into account the gang problems we have along with the many other social issues our much more ethnically diverse population faces. These are all factors, it's not as clear cut as you imagine it to be.

And, yes I know you have facts and evidence, but still it's your opinion that our gun laws cause our gun crimes.

I thought about it, but I liked it more as a statement.
Re: MXS Twitter
Yes sir. Based on a per annum average that is correct (0.26 deaths). Australia has 1.06 (in 2010).Phathry25 wrote:Are you saying you have less than 1 shooting death per year?

There we have it, the first sign of a logical response. You're correct, there are a number of factors that can cause this. And yes it is not as clear cut as anyone would hope it to be. So if changing gun laws isn't the way to go, then what is? Because so far doing nothing has only made it worse. You think the fact that you could get shot one week would be enough for you to spark change, to look into options. Obama wants to adopt some of Austrlia's gun laws but you guys won't let him. So where to from here??Obama wrote:“My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage. We’re the only developed country on earth where this happens. And it happens now once a week. And it’s a one-day story. There’s no place else like this,”
Opinion that the deaths by firearms are to high in the US and something should be done about it?!?!? Why the fuck would I change my opinion.tyskorn wrote:You opinion isn't gonna change, so I'm sorry for not having the answers you desire.
The answer I desire?? I don't follow, you stated an irrelevant thing about population. It wasn't an answer. The stats are based on the population sizes. If your population increases and your deaths stay the same then your stats would actually drop.
Hi
Re: MXS Twitter
You missed this part Steven. Again though guns don't kill people, people kill people. It's the people not the guns. Please explain how any sharp kitchen, shop tool, or even a vehicle can't kill someone.Phathry25 wrote: You are also not taking into account the gang problems we have along with the many other social issues our much more ethnically diverse population faces. I'm not against what you are saying at all though, I think stricter gun laws should be strongly considered and tested out. Taking guns though will solve nothing but cause chaos within the public.
Re: MXS Twitter
I feel as if you think myself and the majority of Americans like that we have a high amount of deaths involving guns, when really that's not the case. The argument against more restrictive gun laws is not that the amount of deaths involving guns is acceptable, it's the loss of a right that Americans are guaranteed. The best way to persuade people into your position is to see things from the other side and provide a counter example, which I feel you cannot do because you have not lived as an American guaranteed this right that you suggest be taken away. Laws and actions have been put in place to make obtaining a gun a longer process, but u I feel as if you think myself and the majority of Americans like that we have a high amount of deaths involving guns, when really that's not the case. The best way to persuade people to share your position is to see things from the other side and provide a counter example, which I feel you cannot do because you have not lived as an American guaranteed the right to bear arms. Laws and actions have been put in place to make obtaining a gun a longer process, but you can't weed out all the bad guys. If a teenage just turns eighteen and wants to get a gun to go shoot up a school, he may have no criminal record and be able to do so easily. I would like for there to be less shootings and like things too, but I don't think taking away guns is the answer, and I'm also not saying that's what you're saying needs to be done. I also don't think there are many, if any, solutions to the problem that don't take away that right, and I don't think making it illegal to own guns would get rid of deaths involving guns. I'm gonna try to stay out of this argument now because I'm already too deep, but my stubbornness prevails.

Re: MXS Twitter
My personal opinion on the issue is that we should experiment with more strict gun laws, perhaps tightening restrictions further for even getting a gun. I do feel that high-powered assault weapons should not be as widely available as they are now. While I'm not a hunter and have actually never gone hunting before, I would have to believe that a shotgun should be able to do the trick, at least for what hunters hunt for up here, which is mainly deer. The whole issue of gun control is a very touchy subject because of the 2nd Amendment and all that, and I don't know exactly how we could get this under control, since there's so many "what if" situations that could arise. Again, I'm not a gun expert by any means so I'm not very informed on how difficult it is to get a gun right now or any of that.

Proud of you Byron, expirement, try. Like some one mentioned you're to late to make any real changes. There is no need to ban guns and I for one wouldn't want it. Do you not feel un easy when you see a strange looking man carrying a gun? I feel like your view on rights is far from mine. I agree it's not fair to give someone a right then take it away. There's a number of things you're not legally allowed to do in public that likely wouldn't harm anyone but it's for your own safety. I do feel strongly against carrying weapons, it gives someone the option or the means. A number of shootings are caused by Pele being made at someone and taking it to far. Hence why you're not allowed to buy ammo and a gun at once but what happens if you already have one? I wouldn't want the right to bear arms it would make myself feel un safe. There are a lot of stupid people that can do stupid things.

Re: MXS Twitter
Are the any Americans here who live in constant fear because someone near you might have a gun? Not one? Weird....
It would be illogical to try and logically argue with someone about something they know very little about and have shown time and again that they don't understand fully. And that's why I am just being a smart ass here for the most part.
Byron, shotguns don't shoot very far, you need the rifle because deer like to keep their distance.
Havoc hit the nail on the head right at the start of this shindig, it's mental illness. When someone goes on a killing spree with a knife they ask why did this person do this? What is wrong with them? When someone does it with a gun they ask why did this person have a gun? How did they get ammo? This is how the American media works. They have an agenda, and don't do much to disguise it. Just enough so that the sheeple will follow along.
It seems like instead of serial killers we now have mass murderers. Haven't heard about a good serial killer in a while.
I guess it is the age of instant gratification...
