This is actually a thing and it makes sense to an extent. If you're cycling on the road and I'm not watching I'll run you down and unless you have rear vision mirrors there's not a lot you can do. If you're riding into oncoming traffic you'll see me heading straight for you and likely move.
Not saying it's a good idea but it is a safety thing some people use and there's logic behind it.

I don't get the thrill the some people must get by almost clipping me as I ride down the side of the road. It's seriously fucked up. Flip them off and watch them freak out and act like they're going to hit you, but still not get as close to you as they did when they passed you at speed. MURICA!!!!
One time I got in a shouting match with some obese hag when I caught her at the next light after she nearly ran me off the road. She seemed to believe cyclists should ride into the oncoming traffic. Obviously pointless trying to talk any sense into her. Would have been better off throwing my water at her. Not one of my finest moments.
Here in my country that is also how laws work. I was just explaining how some do it. Also I might add that according to recent reports my country is more free than yours

Keeping in mind the traffic laws in my area and the fact that I'm not an irreverent dumbass who rides a bicycle on busy roads without a shoulder, I'll move with the flow of traffic and take my chances with a 30mph relative collision speed rather than 100mph. To each his own, though.

Seems understandable, right?
Apperently its safer to run against traffic so you can make quick moves if a car tries to hit you. If you were running with traffic you would have no control of it. As for cycling they are traveling at a much higher speed so they ride with traffic.

If I'm going 35 and you're going 65 toward me, we'll collide at a relative 100mph, hence the word "relative." You can probably figure out the relative collision speed if we're going the same direction.

If two cars came together both going 50, the collision would only be a 50 mph collision. But in this situation the car has more mass and yada yada yada I get it now.

You cycle at 35mph?? Nice, I can only go like 25mph.
I was just sharing some of the different beliefs people have and the logic behind it. I did say I didn't agree with it, simply sharing. I'm sorry I'll stop.
