Everybody said that Dorna (the promoter in 2003 and the current MotoGP promoter) did a bad job with motocross. The 1 moto system was bad, they didn't provided enough racing for the fans ... And they end up selling the promoter rights for way less money then they bought with.FnF_greg wrote:^All i can say about Herlings is that i really hope he goes racing the Ama lites class next year outdoors. He should have an 'easy' title this year, since his main competitors are getting moved to mx 1 class.
Would be rad to see him do Southwick or something like that this year, but seeing both calenders don't think so..
Anyway here is my newest Vhs race converted to youtube. The 2003 GP of valkenswaard. Nice battle with Pichon vs Everts in it
But after seeing that first race in Bellpuig and now this race I might think that a 1 moto system has a future in motocross. ALL big forms of racing only have 1 moto. F1, MotoGP, Cyclocross, mountainbike, supercross ...
And it's just way more interesting for the TV channels. In a busy sports afternoon is it impossible to have both motos on the screen. While if it's only 1 moto they might interupt that stage of the tour de france for 45 minutes to show the mx race. Also the way how everybody keeps pushing for the entire moto is great to watch. Normally are the last 10 minutes of the motos boring. But in this system you have to keep it pinned because the guy behind you knows that he doesn't have to save any energy.
And if they put MX1-MX2-MX3 in the same weekend. Along with some support classes now and then like WMX-eMX2-eMX125-eMX150 then the day will be filled with racing and the fans who watch it live on scene will have a nice day. Although if I would be a promoter I would dump the MX3 class asap. It's a goon class anyway.
Also the way how Dorna filmed everything is just amazing. Right now they miss the one battle after the other. The "live"timing on screen is always running 2-3 laps behind. 10 years later, while technology had a huge evolution is Youthstream doing it worse then Dorna when it comes down to TV coverage.
Thx for uploading it Greg, do you have the full 2003 series?
