More power can be made with carburetors than with FI. This is because carburetors atomize fuel much better than fuel injectors do. Listen to all the interviews about the Pro riders switching over the the EFI bikes, none of them sounded enthusiastic at all. Nothing beats a responsive properly tuned carb.
The only advantages to FI are:
- better emissions
- weather friendly
- "easier" to tune (just plug in a laptop)
And other minor things
And not all cars had EFI in the 80's. Buick really pioneered it with the Grand Nationals in 1984 (my car)

Re: 2010 250F Fuel Injection
Yeah, I mean, within that decade, not just 1980. But what I mean, is that within that decade, nearly every car had started to get EFI introduced into it.
But actually, EFI is much older than the 80's too. Many planes had had it in the 1920's, in the Diesel engines. The ASh-62 Shvetsov had EFI, in the 20's. Along with the B-29 Superfortress. BMW even put it in some of their German military aircraft. 801 had it in 1939, or somewhere around there.
Granted, that is all diesel, but still, it existed.
EDIT: And even some 1960 corvettes had EFI. 283's had it, not sure about other versions.
